Before COVID, one weekend afternoon, a pastor (decent looking man in his 40s) and a group of young people were trying to preach to gay men on the corner of Castro and 18th Streets in San Francisco, right in front of BofA. I have thought more than once about how horribly lost in unreality that pastor was. The idea you could talk a gay person out of being gay seems bizarre to me. The ignorance of what gay people walking by have likely gone through at the hands of religion or at least what they have contemplated to live functional lives shocks me. And who was the pastor trying to persuade? Passers by or himself?

I feel like it's easier to hide a lesbian relationship than a gay relationship. If you see two girls at a restaurant or at a movie together you typically won't think anything of it, but if there were two guys in the same place it would just seem more like a relationship. Is it just me that would think that, or is it just society?
@garyjaycat9 жыл бұрын
Yeah. It kind of is society.

It's also harder for a guy to come out to than a woman. Society almost sees female homosexuality as a positive, look at all the female celebrities who claim to be bisexual just so they can be edgy.
@Vanessacabesa9 жыл бұрын
+That Is My Prerogative bisexual denial is a real thing though. Bisexuals are often not accepted by gays or straights, and are told they're faking it. Why is their sexuality not valid enough? Do you know anything about those celebrities' private lives? No, how can we? So, don't deny someone's right to come out, just because their sexuality (or gender for that matter) doesn't fit into a perfect box of gay or straight.
@InUnderstandingMe9 жыл бұрын

I think that's even more accurate when you're talking about latin americans (as a girl who lives in brazil), cuz like i'm used to see female friends just holding hands for no reason and like hugging each other in an intimate way and even dancing romantically and stuff... It's reeally confusing trying to figure out if they're just friends or not, that's why it's such a fun thing to do (or i'm the only one who finds it fun, which is quite likely)

I cut out the expletives and shortened it but what did he expect when he visits a gay bar. This is supposed to be one place gay people can be themselves and enjoy a night out without the disgusting slurs from the homophobes. The worst homophobes though are the people who automatically thinks the word gay also means paedophile, I have met far too many people with that thought process.

I live in America and it is IMPOSSIBLE to go anywhere holding hands without everyone staring at you and making a big deal about it. I acutely remember one of my first dates in which my girlfriend and I went to the movies and this group of teenagers behind us were loudly exclaiming "Oh my god look! Awwwww, lesbians!" after I put my arm around her. They then, with the FLASH ON, took a photo of us! It was absolutely revolting the way they were acting despite it not being "homophobic". TL/DR: Straight people, stop acting like gay couples are there for your amusement. We're gays, not puppies.
