Dr Hyman, I had horrible hotflashes several times a day. Started walking, now jogging, lost 80+lbs. I eat balanced whole food meals ex: chicken breast, roasted green beans w/garlic cloves, sweet potato w/fat free Greek. Apples healed my gut. No longer have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. Hot flashes went away. I ate frozen pizza and hot flashes returned so I have learned to control hotflashes with the food I eat, they must add hormone disruptors in processed food.

When I asked my doctor to test my hormone levels, he said " what do you want to know, that it's raining outside ? (It was raining that day, of course!) Why does this have to be complicated? Why do we have to be "begging" doctors to do tests which are clearly needed to see if we are healthy? It's so frustraiting and tiring. This is why a lot of women stop going to the doctors after a certain age, because nothing is done to help them manage menopause.

He answered exactly the right way. Why test if the symptoms are there. No test will show you more what is happening like listening to your body will. If you’re having symptoms, you’re insulin resistant and have hormone imbalances. Your test results will look totally different today compared to tomorrow. Treat the symptoms!

Dr. Hyman…..finally at 81 years old I am listening to your video on a subject that has been so controversial about Hormone replacement therapy. I started using bio identical hormones when I had my first flash at 50 years old. I was fortunate to have wonderful doctors who were ahead of their time. I still apply a .025 weekly patch of estradiol and a 50 mg compounded progesterone lozenge at night. I also take Magnesium before bedtime as I have problems sleeping. I eat well and exercise to keep up with young friends and family. I wish more doctors were like you for our new generation of young women going into menopause. I was also born with celiac disease and diligently control it with diet. Can you recommend a book of yours that concentrates on the right foods for healthy gut living. Thank you.

Hi, Doctor. Thank you so much for this podcast. I am 49 y/o and still on Birth control estrogen/progestin 24. In the past year I started experiencing migraines, brain fog, night sweats and loss in libido. I was under the impression that the birth control will prevent that since it shuts down the ovaries , and supplies the body with high doses of hormones. How can I still be experiencing symptoms that are attributed to decline of estrogen and progesterone? What would you recommend? Will switching to bio identical HRT help? Thanks.

Stop drinking water/ fluids 4hours before your bedtime, unless you have dry mouth. Tiny sips only. Then wait for full glass after hour seven of sleeping/waking. Go back to sleep for the final shift of sleep. I was over hydrated, but menopause and staircases are an annoying mess. I cut back the beer, wine, or water several hours b4 bed, and instantly stopped the restlessness. Also, vitamins c , magnesium , and a multi vitamins, with d vitamins, and all my hot flashes seemed to disappear. Cutting out alcohol is the key, sodas too, though I rarely drank them.
