We all must come to terms with the process of aging at some point in our lives. Thankfully, there are many things that can be done to reduce the effects of aging and even reverse some of them.
In this episode, I talk with many experts including Dave Asprey, Dr. Casey Means, Dr. Valter Longo, Dr. Kara Fitzgerald, and Dr. Jason Fung about practices we can all incorporate into our lives to reduce the common effects of aging including fasting, choosing a diet that doesn’t constantly spike our blood sugar, supporting our gut health, and much more.
Dave Asprey is the creator of the Bulletproof Diet, and innovator of Bulletproof Coffee. He is a four-time New York Times bestselling science author, host of the Webby award-winning podcast Bulletproof Radio, and has been featured on The Today Show, Fox News, Nightline, CNN, and dozens more. Over the last two decades Dave, the “Father of Biohacking”, has worked with world-renowned doctors, researchers, scientists, and global mavericks to uncover the latest, most innovative methods, techniques, and products for enhancing mental and physical performance.
Dr. Casey Means is a Stanford-trained physician, Chief Medical Officer and Co-founder of metabolic health company Levels, an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention, and a Guest Lecturer at Stanford University. Her mission is to maximize human potential and reverse the epidemic of preventable chronic disease by empowering individuals with tools that can facilitate a deep understanding of our bodies and inform personalized and sustainable dietary and lifestyle choices. Dr. Means’ perspective has been recently featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Men’s Health, Forbes, Business Insider, Techcrunch, Entrepreneur Magazine, Metabolism, Endocrine Today, and more.
Dr. Valter Longo is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of aging studies and related diseases. Known as a “Guru of Longevity,” Dr. Longo is currently Professor of Biogerontology and Biological Sciences and Director of the Institute of Longevity of the School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, as well as Director of the Oncology and Longevity Program at IFOM in Milan. He is also the Scientific Director of the Create Cures Foundation and the Valter Longo Foundation. Valter is the author of an extraordinary book, The Longevity Diet. The culmination of 25 years of research on aging, nutrition, and disease across the globe, it provides an easy-to-understand, accessible and implementable road map to living well longer through improved nutrition.
Dr. Kara Fitzgerald is on the faculty of the Institute for Functional Medicine, is an IFM Certified Practitioner, and lectures globally on Functional Medicine. She runs a Functional Medicine Clinic Immersion program for professionals and hosts a podcast series, New Frontiers in Functional Medicine, and an active blog on her website. Her clinical practice is in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. With the Helfgott Research Institute, Dr. Fitzgerald is actively engaged in clinical research on the DNA methylome using a diet and lifestyle intervention developed in her practice. The first publication from the study focuses on the reversal of biological aging and was published this past April in the journal Aging. Her new book, Younger You, as well as her 3 Years Younger Program, have just been released.
Dr. Jason Fung is a physician, author, and researcher. His groundbreaking science-based books about diabetes and obesity, The Diabetes Code, The Obesity Code, and The Complete Guide to Fasting have sold over one million copies and challenged the conventional wisdom that diabetics should be treated with insulin. Dr. Fung is also the co-founder of The Fasting Method, a program to help people lose weight and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally with fasting. His latest book is The Cancer Code: A Revolutionary New Understanding of a Medical Mystery.

My opinion is to approach extended fasting as you would if you were in training for a sport. The body should be trained to function on ketos and not glucose. That's the hardest part as you can really feel sick as you go through withdrawal. Give yourself months to adjust So now you are ready..Enjoy the 'high' you will feel. Stay focused. Good luck.

What is the recipe
@sheila7814
@sheila7814 5 ай бұрын
@@marquita3058 I use 2 1/4 cups of hard wheat [sometimes I change this up by the ratio, but I like: 1 1/4 c hard red, 1/2 c spelt, 1/2 c hard white; when I want it even nuttier tasting, I use more spelt and less hard white]. Grind into flour. Add 1 tsp salt, mix well. In a separate bowl, take 1 tb active yeast, add 1/4 c room temp water (warm, not hot) and a tsp or less of sugar to activate the yeast. Set aside while you get the rest ready. Once it is bubbly, it is ready to add to the mixture. In a separate bowl, take 1/2 c warm (not hot) water and mix in 1/4 c cooking oil, 1 egg, and 1/4 c honey if you prefer sweeter. [I use minimal sugar because we don’t use much in our house]. Mix this liquid mixture and then add it to the flour. Add the yeast mixture. Mix all well and knead about 10 min. If it feels dry, you can add more water until you get a nice soft dough. Cover in a lightly oiled bowl and let rise until double in height. Roll on to a lightly floured board and lightly shape into a loaf. Pull sides toward middle and ends toward middle, pinch. Place in a loaf pan and bake at 350-375 until nice and brown…. In my oven that is about 35 minutes. Makes a nice loaf that lasts about 6 days if we eat a slice a day. We love it!

He acknowledges that dairy is an issue and is also cautious around raw milk, he should research what pasteurisation does to the milk. People with a ‘dairy intolerance’ can tolerate raw milk due to the good bacteria which cancels out the bad bacteria. The good bacteria gets killed off during pasteurisation.
@elisemiller13
@elisemiller13 4 ай бұрын
@lw5871 I suspect he knows. He didn't recommend pasturerized, the question was about Raw and he cautioned you know your source to avoid problems. He also recommended sheep or goat milk for a reason ,and not too often. Just because a food is "tolerated" doesn't mean it's necessarily good for you.

I like you Mark can loose weight easily. I am thin 5’8, 135 lbs and feel good at 69. I have always had a higher cholesterol reading. New doctors who see my test results and have no idea of how active I am tell me I am going to have a heart attack with blood pressure of 100/68 and a pulse rate of 70. I exercise 3 miles up and down the hills of Austin 3-4 times a week along with yoga and light weight training. They suggested I stay away from flax or coconut oil, which I add to my veggie smoothie after fasting for 16 hours. If I do not add some type of fat, I feel hungry. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 🥰

I’m similar 146 lbs, active exercising, 117/60 70 bpm, I eat 5-7 eggs a day with bacon for lunch with veggie(blueberryspinach/whey/banana/flax/spirulina)smoothie, then within 5 hours steak or fish and 4 cup’s veggies steamed for dinner. My doc insisted on statins which I resisted although Aggatson score is elevated I feel soooo much better than my previous high carb diet. High fat is the way to go. Ps I drink 1 tbs of olive oil and fish oil daily.

Suggesion, how about you just ignore what is obviously bad advice? I imagine you are healthier than any of them! Read Mary Newsom's books on coconut oil and associated research, and then wonder why anybody would direct a woman of 69 away from it...

It's sad that powerful knowledge is out there. Yet, too many search for much less important information, rather than their health. Especially the many who are suffering uneededly, and all the bs doctor visits. Not just the physical health, but emotional & spiritual gets sacrificed as well.

Fasting for many is a lifestyle and they do it for years. The hardest part for me at first was pushing past the hunger signal, knowing I'm not really starving that's just my body on self preservation mode. I'll either guzzle a bunch of water or do something physical until it passes, which is fairly quick. Check out his other videos for fasting. Good Luck 😀👍🏼

The only things I would say about anything when it comes to what you eat, it food allergy testing. You could be eating something that is inflammatory to you and you don’t even know it. Just because broccoli is good it may not be good for you. Allergies come and go is well, so annually testing is beneficial. Inflammation is the cause of ALL disease

You say take your multi-vitamins yet I heard the molecules are too large to cross the blood brain barrier, or that only up to 13% of something like Centrum actually gets absorbed. Isn't eating eggs like eating a multi-vitamin? I heard eggs have every vitamin and mineral your body needs except for Vitamin C.

I find it hard to respect a “medical professional” that constantly bashes and makes fun of the specific diet someone chooses to eat. Maybe veganism isn’t for you. That’s fine. However, I do have a problem with false information this guest speaker is spewing. How about providing some scientific evidence with that bashing. My mother is an 87 year old vegan of over 65 years. She is independent, works the family cleaning business and takes one pill. I grew up vegan from the age of 5. I’m 5’7”, have all my teeth, etc. I never had a weight or health issue until I changed my diet to include processed foods, dairy products and sugar. My mother is healthier than I am.

Chia seeds are so high in oxalates I hope your not recommending spinach or Swiss chard or other high oxalates foods you all should really interview Sally K Norton who wrote toxic superfoods she can tell you all about oxalates and how bad they are for you. Anyway thank you for all you do I listen to both of you all the time and share your videos that’s why I was shocked to hear you all recommending high oxalates. Take care and many blessings to both of you
