I've been working on my left foot for a little bit now. It's the closing part I have troubles with. Are you closing the hihat at the same time as you are hitting it? Sometimes when I do that my ekit doesn't register it or something. If I try to close it slightly before hitting it, it's fine. That's kinda hard for me tho.

I have an E kit as well and I'm noticing it's simply not as responsive as a true high hat. And so replicating certain sounds can be tricky. Especially high hat accents. Opening and closing just doesn't always register unless your dead on precise.

High Hat should play on 2 and 4. Rock your left foot up and down so it closes on 2 and 4. Bass drum 1234. Match right had on ride cymbal with bass, and left hand on snare with hi hat. Practice till you don’t have to think. Now you are ready to extrapolate and add maybe 8th notes on cymbal and experiment with left hand on snare, Tom’s, etc. It just takes years of practice. Practice. Practice. From an old 72 year old drummer! Good luck! Have fun!🥁
