The sidehop technique can feel overwhelming to learn, especially if you focus too hard on the "side" part of the movement. The good news is that there is an easier way to break this technique down, and it will allow you to build confidence (and height) without any consequence.
Check out the three ways that most people get this move wrong - and how you can go about building up your sidehop skill the right way. With a pedal kick and the right sequence, you'll lock this in quickly!

This is one of the most underrated tutorial. I learned from this more than those bunnyhop videos with 1m views. The fundamentals like pedal kick and preload drill is highly important and overlooked on other tuts. I hope youtube algorithm would suggest this kind of tuts more.

There is nothing else I can really add that has not been stated in the other positive comments. Another A+ tutorial Aaron! Also, your pacing, presentation skills, and thoughtful/creative editing consistently brings your vids to life.

I’m just working on this move myself. Your lecture makes me feel that I can do this better because now I know it's simply jumping straight up with pedal kick that I can do better.

So many good tips! And the emphasis on just focusing on up first matches my experience 100%. My best ever side hop sessions came after focusing on just that kick straight up motion with no bar or obstacle around. I haven't gone back to that as much as I should but after seeing this will spend some more time focusing on that again.

And just now I thought it could be usefull to get used to pull the handlebar to the hips on pedal kicks. And it's about the same movement with some improvements.

That's exactly the way I went. And didn't get anywhere yet. I've decided to first try the move straight. Without going side. Than I thought it would be nice to put attention to most important details and put aside others. And still didn't figure out which ones are what. 😀 Looks like I jump too fast. I don't get to that kinda staning still position. But it could be because I'm not that much backward. I guess I start from about the same position as for pedal up (the motion you use to stand at rear wheel). I wonder if I can get help from doing pedal kick from standing on both wheels and ending up on a back one. That's what usually happens.

Noticed that you move your head to the opposite side as you lean the bike. This may explain why I'm getting tons of height but can't cross over a one inch wide piece of tape on the floor.

Have you tried the sidehop bar? Having that small obstacle of the bar helped me a lot with the mental side of it.

@@SuperRiderTV i tried a string instead long time ago and thought it was my way to 24 inches high.... And since I was mostly on work I have very little to no time in riding. Butterflies in my chest grows and multiplies rapidly. I lost my balance confidence and timing.

The only thing holding me back with huge side hops is the fact that I'll screw up my rotors if i slip, too many rotors in the graveyard already hahah, but great tips especially with the part where you show how much we bend the bike for sidehops!
@SuperRiderTV

Thanks! It would be cool if Inspired (or someone) made a little rotor bash guard. I had one on my mod bike, actually. Pretty useful!

I was in the same boat for years too. My natural side is rotor side so I forced myself to learn them 'bad' side instead. Eventually I was confident enough to go natural and I've only killed maybe 3 rotors in 10 years. It's nice to be able to do them both ways now 👍

Hey, love your videos! I have a question for you. Normally I ride with my left foot forward. I do all sorts of stuff regular rider would do: manuals, wheelies, bunnyhops, trackstands, jumps, drops, etc. However, I am struggling with pedal kicks. For some reason it is easier for me to do pedal kicks with my right foot forward. When I try to do them with my left foot forward it simply does not work. Should I keep trying to learn to do them with my left foot or am I missing something? Thanks in advance:)
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! That’s a great question, and honestly I’ve never heard of that scenario. If it works easier to do trials specific moves with your left foot forward, I would suggest continuing down that path and see where it ends up. Trials is hard enough - if one style is coming easy to you, stick with it! :)

Nice job dissecting the details. I can’t wait to try this, but likely I will again say to myself “damn he explained it so well and made it look so doable!” It never works out so easy though. I just need to practice. Can’t get around that I guess! Love the channel. It looks like a bunny hop on steroids.

I managed to do them up curbs but i have problem with shifting my body sideways or my bike, i see videos of you doing them and you go straight up but magically sideways, even if i pull straight up first i cant move my body easy on the side, my back wheel sometimes remains behind, sometimes it works, talking about the one wheel method
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Жыл бұрын
It's all in the bike, leaning it away from the obstacle - maybe try to overexaggerate the movement with your bike and see if you have a better result when doing that? It's subtle when I do it, just because I've been doing it for so long, so you might have to really lean it away from you to get a similar result.
@wobblesization
@wobblesization Жыл бұрын
@@SuperRiderTV thx for quick answer, it helps that I don't need to focus on my body, do I need to lean the bike away from the obstacle before I hop? For ex if the obstacle is on my right and I hop to right I need to force the bike left to push me to the right? Or just hop and push the bike to the right
