Read somewhere years ago, our bodies are the same as it was 20,000 years ago. Could be more I think. I love exercising, I was active as a child, sports in high school. A job that required physical fitness. I think all of that has kept me strong and agile at 65.

Very good discussion. Nonetheless also as a cardiologist I just found that the questions about intense exercise and potencial cardiac problems could be better explored. I do think that when we achieve extremes some people will tend to get problems. Maybe some of this athletes that get atrial fibrilation do have a genetic predisposition to arrhyitmia for example. And about atherosclerosis (coronary calcification) in some athetes I also think that despite they can compensate this find with better lipids and coagulation for example I don t think that it is normal. We just dont know yet why this happens and what is the exact mecanism.

Cardiovascular exercise also facilitates bowel movement. It reduces the time it takes food to pass thru the large intestine. The longer it takes for food to pass thru the large intestine, the dryer the stool becomes and the more difficult it will be to pass it.

Thanks. Very informative. Just watched a presentation by Joseph Takahashi on a his lab's study which showed a major positive impact on lifespan in calorie restricted or time restricted fed mice when the mice were fed and exercised during their normal night time active period. I wonder how the study results of Dr. Ashley's could have been improved or altered if his mice were trained at night instead of during the day when they normally sleep.

In 2023 I cut and delivered 80 cords of firewood and I am 66. The trees were up to 3 feet in diameter. I cut them into 16 inch rounds and had to lift them all.

Our warming climate though is making it much harder to work outside. When it is hot, I suffered heat exhaustion

Understanding and researching the benefits of exercise provides great incentive to do it. YAY! However, calling it a "medical intervention" seems ridiculous.

I absolutely get where you are coming from, but I think the relevant aspect here is that it can literally be "prescribed" in place of medications, if executed faithfully by the patient.

@@abbyabroad Thanks for your response. As a nurse of many years, I see it as perpetuating an over-dependance on a system that is broken and a patriarchy that is toxic. Doctors have been prescribing lifestyle advice for years (diet changes, quitting smoking, and exercise) and they often fail. We call it "non compliance'. I think the '"faithful execution "needs to be more intrinsic. Of course that opens up a more complex conversation about what motivates people to change behavior. I use 'Medical Improv' as a modality to help healthcare professionals develop better communication behaviors. It is effective, when facilitated properly, b/c it is engaging, fun, with their peers, and they can choose their own growing edge. At the same time, please know I respect this work and I hope these ideas are helpful to those who can benefit.

It’s “mankind” not human kind. Man plus kind means human. That’s why the word “kind” is added as a suffix to “man.” Human includes men, women, and children. So, saying human and kind is grammatically incorrect-it’s a redundancy. Kind of silly, right? It may be PC, but it’s not correct. You gentlemen are too impressive to be political (or woke) and not correct. Great interview! I enjoyed it very much.
