Glad you were brave enough to discuss this topic Stuart! I have noticed that hardly any Thai people wear perfume or cologne. Unfortunately I have experienced a few Thais that were less than fragrant shall we say, while riding in songtaews. The vast majority that have poor body hygiene, in my experience, have been non-thais though.

I am a person with high cleanliness standards, some westerners I am ashamed to be associated with in Thailand. It amazes me that even a bolt driver after driving all day doesn’t smell. Take them as an example!

Many thais are lucky in that regard, south east asia in general is lacking functioning of one gene which causes them to not have the same strong body odor as people in Europe or America. I have the same mutation and I always remember thinking it was weird why everyone needed to use a deodorant as a kid lol

This is soooooo true. I was once on a flight back from Chiang Mai and sit next to a tourist couple. A husband sit at an aisle seat while his wife was in the middle and I was in the window seat. And thank you god that he was not right next to me. Because even there was a person sit between us, he was STINK so bad like very bad. I had to turn my head out and looked out the window THE WHOLE TRIP. And yes, somehow, this kind of comments given straight to their face is not something that we learned to do. And it felt even bad to do it.
Deodorant covers the smell while antiperspirant slows the actual sweating in the covered area... they are not the same product, and alot of people are confused about them. 💪
Antiperspirant and deodorants work really well if you apply after a shower at night before bed. Gives them all night to work and then apply again after every shower.I have been doing it for years and never sweat and never smell. I live in Thailand.
Goes without saying, but I'll add it anyway. After taking a shower, and using deodorant, put on clean clothes. It doesn't have to be straight from the wardrobe every time, but make sure that the clothes you put on don't smell bad already.

Dr. pong 28d spray. Best for keeping you smelling good here. It is the best deodorant sold here. Try it!
One time I passed two male East Asian tourists, I was taken aback with their strong body odour. The smell was so overwhelming that I had to hold my breath until they were out of sight! Thailand is both hot and humid, so please use deodorant and anti-bacteria body shower, these would help a lot.

For all the people playing semantics between deodorant and antiperspirant. If you don’t sweat much, use a deodorant. If you get wet, use an antiperspirant. Yes, we can smell it either way. So please just use something.

If I understand correctly, you can use a good perfume, but only after the body's own odour has been extinguished? Is that correct?

Looking at Grengjai as a baseline - the goal is to not IMPOSE on anyone around you, keeping in mine, forcing someone to smell any fragrance good or bad is a form of 'imposing' - so with that in mind: 1. Shower at least twice a day, but if you've done anything that warrants showering more, err on the side of caution 2. Use Anti Persipirate AND Deodorant - just body sprays are not enough - but don't overdo the SMELL part of those 3. using Aftershave / Perfume - if just going to work, perhaps 1 pump okay, but to make it super obvious you have it on is not great - especially if you'll be in closed public places. 4. Things like Oud Oil or Patchouli Oil are considered more 'stink' than 'fragrant' to Thais, and not advised. I know there will be people who object to this - but i actually have it in WRITING by Thais - as i have done numeous surveys on this stuff over the past 30 years for my cross cultural training. It is what it is.

@lastpreacher9093Күн бұрын
Thailand is hot. Everyone needs to take a shower at least once every 24 hours. Use a deodorant. Avoid eating garlic if you can. If you’re sweating a lot, go back to your hotel, take a shower and rest a while. Change your clothes everyday. Brush your teeth and have a breath freshener handy. Be polite to Thai people and smile more often. It’s their country, don’t impose yourself on them. Adapt to their ways or stay out of Thailand.

I forgot to tell you the Thai words that should be use instead of ซ้อน are ทับ or สะสม krup.
"Huge issue" I don't know about that. I definately notice it occasianlly particularly in lifts and on BTS or buses. Sorry to say it but the majority of the time it is a certain race of people and they aren't caucasian. Controversial content maybe but at the same time it annoys me when I have to stand near someone like this on BTS or somewhere and everyone in a 3m radius has to put up with this loud smelly guy. Fun fact too a lot of Thais don't sweat much at all. There was a post about this online some years back which I was sceptical of. Then doing a 10km hike up a hill in the hot sun in Krabi with my ex I was amazed she didn't have a drop of sweat on her. I don't think they all don't sweat as I train with them cutting weight sometimes in sweatsuits but they seem to have a higher tolerance to heat / sweating

One company flew me to India to present the results of a survey I ran with over 100 Thais and no. 1 issue was they Stink... please wash, wear deodorant, shower and wear clean clothes. Execs of the company were given Hygiene hampers when posted to Thailand

@@StuartJayRaj I didn't think of it from a workplace perspective. I can imagine that as Thais might not want to address it openly. I had a boss once tell me to address it with one of our staff once. In order to keep it all free, and not have to hit any pay-for APIs, the way to hear on demand sounds of any word that you type in is to go to the word spacer tool and it will allow you to open fire google and hear is there . i have an implementation on my local machine where i can call the api to hear individual words comma but it's not the pricing ride up which would become uncontrollable right now in this free version.

This is one of the many things I love about Thailand. I am American but I will say there is nothing more offensive then someone with B.O. I live in NYC and people here don't care about those around them at all, one of the reasons I'm moving shortly. Summers here are the worst! Hot, humid and everything stinks, including the people. I have been to Thailand many times and I have ever only smelled B.O. once, and it was on a foreigner. It's just called consideration for others.
