I, too, saw one of these performances in 1976. Verrett was just hair-raising, far and away the greatest Azucena I have ever seen. Her "Codotta era ella in ceppi" was incredible, dead silence for several seconds after it ended, such was the tension she created. (Scotto, Pavarotti, Quilico and conductor Gavazzeni were not exactly chopped liver, either.) I had no idea there was video of these performances. What a phenomenal blessing youtube is!! Thanks so much for posting this!

Did she sing the written C later in this scene? Ive heard her do it many times before and if so did you catch it on video?

as much as I love pavarotti, was he singing. but then, should one performer match volume etc. who knows verrett is a power house. and believe mepavarotti is still the best male voice of all time.
