@HamlettKenneth8 жыл бұрын
+antij1 Ms. Ballard signed a contract with another label after she left Motown, and she made recordings that are available on You Tube,, so she was hardly blackballed. In interviews after her dismissal, she acknowledged that she did not like all the work involved in building a successful recording career, and she especially disliked the time on the road away from home. She also acknowledged that she failed to show up for some performances, showed up drunk for others and purposely sabotaged the choreography to mess up Ms. Ross and Ms. Wilson. I do not believe Ms. Ballard was blackballed at all, but if others did not want to work with her, it did not have anything to do with Mr. Gordy. She built her own reputation, sadly. It always astonishes me when I read criticism of the members of the group who worked everyday to make them successful, in particular Ms. Ross, whose sound propelled them to international stardom, but no criticism of the member who did the opposite. I love all the Supremes, and do not understand why some insist on speculating about her having a career she did not want. I also do not understand how, after listening to her recordings as a single artist, an objective listener would believe that she had a voice that would have taken her to stardom. She has a nice voice, with occasional problems holding onto pitch, but it is not that different than many other singers -- inside and outside show business, Ms. Ballard does not need an invented career or overblown estimations of her talents. During the initial good years, she and Ms. Ross and Ms. Wilson took the Supremes to the top. They are a part of history and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That would be more than enough for almost anyone on earth, so I do not understand those who feel that she somehow was denied stardom. She achieved stardom with the most successful female group in music history,
