A major hit for the Andrews Sisters and a World War II tune, the song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" is a wartime radio song about a virtuoso trumpet player. The Andrews Sisters introduced the song in the 1941 Abbott and Costello film "Buck Privates", which was in production when they made the record. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. The song is ranked #6 on Songs of the Century.

I have always thought those sisters did more to lift morale and give hope to all of America during wartime than any other performers or celebrity did . With an honorable mention to Shirley Temple , for recognition to her for her contribution during the Great Depression . America depended on them to get us through those dark and trying times .

Thinking of my mom today on what would've been her 92nd birthday... My mother was married just 3 weeks when her 1st husband Neil left to go overseas. He was a fighter pilot on a special mission and shot down & in Burma in March of 1945. This was 1 of their faves... Boy, did she ever love to dance!... God bless U Mom

@@warrenwalker520 🍀💕 Saw the Andrews Sisters on What's My Line and went looking for their songs. @ jwillis1403 (or whatever) must be a total snowflake if he/she can't let the rest of us remember and mourn and celebrate a WW2 pair of newlyweds who were made to sacrifice their dreams to help save the world from evil. Boobie's Mom would have loved knowing we honored her sweetheart and now will remember them and the happy memories they made together. Hope that the rest of her mom's life was full of love and sweet rewards.💕💚💟🌿

There's an alternate version of this film which features the raw footage. One reason apparently why they cut to the archive footage of soldiers is because someone either knocked the camera or there was a malfunction and the image went all wonky for a few moments. Nonetheless this is a remarkable bit of footage - there's not as much footage as you might think of performers of this era performing live and in such relatively pristine image and sound. Patty mentions V-discs plural so one can only hope more of their performances have survived the passage of time. The fact this is live and not lip-synched makes this slightly superior even to the Buck Privates performance.

Patty was so cute and you can yell she really really loved what she was doing and sang from the soul they all did. They always sound so perfect I've never ever seen artists so perfect in live performance. Now they have to lipsync at live shows because they need auto tune. Today's so called musicians could never ever dream of having so much talent and should be ashamed of themselves.

Thank you for sharing this. The Andrew Sisters was before my time.I was able to give up a bad drinking habit by playing video games,in particular,Fallout 3,Fallout new vegas and fallout 4......It worked....Been sober for almost two years now. These fallout games has many classic 40s/50s/60s soundtracks on them. This is where i discovered the Andrew Sisters with Danny Kaye singing Civilization.Been trying to find as many live recorded videos of them performing as i can. There isn't much out there but what true heros in their own rights were these celebrity performers who gave their energy and time entertaining the Brave troops back during WW2.I wish i could find them performing Civilization with Danny Kaye on film. For anyone out there that may read this,if you have trouble with drinking ,want to stop, but, have trouble putting down that metaphor beast,or breaking the habit...Try video games. It's a great way to get your mind off of drinking and the hurt and stress that leads one to do so-to drink.I mean, heck,if you drink and try and play a game you won't get very far into it without getting dizzy, seeing two tvs ( the dreaded ole double vision) or more...Games like fallout 3 and the other two i mentioned above have fun storys, action, and wonderful retro soundtracks. From the Andrew Sisters to Dean Martin these games not only gave me the push i needed to quit drinking, they gave me so much more classic music to love that i had never known of until now.Like Dean Martin's song on the new vegas game soundtrack,Ain't that a kick in the head-in my case-a Good kick in the head! Civilization,i'll stay right here! .....Again,Thank you for sharing this video and for your service standing up so that many like myself have freedoms today, JasonSeaman1...God Bless You!!!!!!
