One of my favourite things about Wise Owl is that (spoilers) is that it *doesn't* end with Ronny murdering his father. It's so easy to have him kill him at the end for horror, but instead the show shows a survivor escaping the cycle of abuse which his father has laid down. It's a much better and much more powerful message and thematic conclusion that if he had killed him or something to that effect

"Get stuffed" I had already been more than won over by Wise Owl at that point, but those last two words alone cemented it as one of my all-time favourite episodes of this show

I agree. Wise Owl was staggeringly well done. From the incredibly authentic looking animation to the script and performances. A real work of art imo.

I love how this guy just casually mentions that he's writing a novel about a guy who's lost in a country that he's never heard of before, as if that's not one of the greatest premises I've ever heard for a story, and I must read the story now please

It's kinda like the opposite if that Tom hanks movie The Terminal. He's stuck in this nightmarishly bureaucratic airport where theres all these hints that the country outside is living under a fascist dictatorship

Series 7 is my second favourite season (although my favourite is Series 4) I enjoyed every episode and adored 4/6 of them Spoilers: Merrily, Merrily was a fantastic and surprisingly emotional opener Mr King was a well made episode which wasn’t for me as I’m not a big fan of the Wicker Man story Nine Lives Kat was a very intriguing story and is due a rewatch Kid/Nap was a ton of fun and really creative in its presentation A Random Act of Kindness was a really well done family drama with some Sci-Fi elements which fit surprisingly well And Wise Owl is my 3rd favourite Number 9 story behind Christine and Bernie Clifton. I can’t give it the appreciation it deserves in this comment Only critique of this video is the thumbnail contains a major spoiler for Wise Owl

According to the closed captions you were "totally flawed by Wiseau", and given what I know about "The Room" and your opinion on things ... I believe that.

Series 7 is possibly the most consistently-good series of Inside No 9, not a single bad episode. Kid/Nap was probably my favourite of all of them.

Wise owl shows horror can be used to deal with the most difficult and sensitive of subjects in a profound and thoughtful manner . Simply phenomenal

I've had this idea for a while now about story of a really happy go lucky do-no-wrong but highly sensitive man, who starred in what he thought was a childrens show when he was a kid that seemed really innocent and fun, being tormented by horrific dreams after he finds out he actually starred in a horror movie when he was little and the filmmakers lied to him and put scenes out of context to try and avoid him getting traumatised at such a young age and it shatters his world view.

In the words of Christopher Lee in Star Wars, “I’ve been looking forward to this”. Man did i love this season, aside from Nine Lives Kat. It’s such so daring, so experimental, which Series 6 didn’t do as much as I know Number 9 can do. And Wise Owl has got to be the most profound thing Steve and Reece have done in their career. The fact that it so easily could’ve ended in Ronnie (Reece’s character) getting revenge on his disgusting father and killing him, but instead walking away to speak out and get help… just wow. If the show had ended there, honestly I’d have been ok with it. But two more series, I’m not complaining

The episode with Jessica Hynes was great. Number 9 are great at doing these really realistic family settings. The ending felt a bit rushed though.

Following up on Stuart's point about how Steve, Reece and all involved managed to make two series under covid conditions - it is worth listening to the 'Inside inside no.9 ' podcast where Steve, Reece and guests discuss how each episode was written and filmed.

I really hope they lean even more into playing with narrative presentation in the final series, as those were my absolutely favourite episodes of both series 7 and the entire show, for example I guess from very early on that RAOK would be a time travel story, but the time jump into the future and new setting totally made up for it. Also Wise Owl gave me analog horror vibes, and if IN9 ever did a full on Analog horror episode, we would be fucked

Easily their strongest season, Mr King was probably my least favourite, but only because it did too good a job at being disturbing. It joins episodes like Riddle of the Sphinx as great stories that I never want to watch again. I seem to be in the minority on this but Nine Lives Kat was my favourite of the season. I'm so glad that Wise Owl had a hopeful ending, was worried at first when the Father put on his PSA voice, but fortunately a Harrowing style ending didn't happen as he was to vile of a character not to go unpunished.

Wow wise owl is flawless. Its up there with my favourite pieces of fiction ever and leaves pretty much every other piece of tv ive seen in the dust. Also is it just me or is it jarring af at this point to see the bbc comedy logo after every episode? The tone is so pitch black this series and the drama is by far the highest priority compared with the comedy for pretty much all the episodes that I feel dark / black comedy isnt even the apropriate genre anymore. Not complaining though since this is the strongest series to date

Hearing about your book about a guy being lost in a country he's never heard of, have you ever heard of a book called "Melog", by Mihangel Morgan? That's about a guy from a country nobody's ever heard of that's been conquered at some point during the Cold War and now holds public executions at random, just turning up in Wales, and befriending a psychiatrist.

While I think Steve gives an amazing performance as Bob (and I am glad he played Bob ) and from what was said a lot of care was taken to ensure the actor playing Zac could convincingly look like a younger version of Steve I do agree Noah Valentine does look like a young Reece!

imo it was a very middling series... i dont think any series of the show is bad, but imo whilst i love the sets, a lot of the episodes felt like not enough happened in the episodes.. so whilst conceptually its prolly in my top 3, writing wise its in my bottom 3, making it seem like a very middling series by the shows admittedly amazing standards to me.. episode immediately

I think it was an OK season, I liked the physics and the kidnap one cause it seemed to do something different. None of the others worked, couple of average ones, Im not a fan of Mr. King, probably because I've never been a fan the wicker man which is one of the most overrated films of all time. And I prefer it when Edward said to tubbs in league of gentlemen 'you did it beautifully'• bit more fresh. I can't help but feel this show is really up and down and maybe they should think about adding more writers to the show.

Season 6 + 7 have not been as great as the previous seasons. In fact I found that season 6 was the worst out of them all, in season 7 the best episode was Wise Owl. My all time favourite is from season 4 and it is Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room.
@DavidWatts5052 жыл бұрын
I really think this show has dropped in quality over the last two series and has become a lot more hit and miss, nine lives kat and random act of kindness I found really quite bad, rest of series very good tho
