I honestly adored Last Night of the Proms. It's so aggressive and confrontational over what it means to be British and I love how textured all the characters are. It's so interesting and provocative and I really enjoyed it. Series 6 was a step up from 5, though I doubt it'll ever be as good as 2-4

Fyi: yes I know its been a while and things are gonna be a bit slower on the channel for a while now as shooting on my short film starts soon (its part of the film course I told you guys I'm on this year) basically loving it so far. Working with actors is fun. That and my film concept is nasty as fuck and people don't look at me weirdly when I tell them it: I have found my people

I was half-considering posting a comment on one of your other videos a few times in the last days asking for a new video. For some reason - probably because I enjoy some of your videos so, so much for what they are and still like most of your other videos because they're from you and I because I like hearing you talk about stuff even if that stuff (the show or whatever) doesn't interest me in and of itself - I was craving some Stubagful.

An interesting thing that Steve and Reece said about Simon Says in their Inside Inside No 9 podcast was they did want Spencer to come off as an arsehole rather then just a reasonable creator being swamped by mad fans

This has been my favourite series so far. Not a single episode in here I really didn’t enjoy, all so varied with tone even for this show. Wuthering heist : great fun and quick intro to the series that has a good ending, at least for this show Simon says: lovely, sinister and love the meta commentary Lip service: one of my favourites, love the twist and my mum adores the German spoof hotel owner Hurry up and wait: weakest of the series, I was more affected by his actual role in the tv show like you said How do you plead: another of my favourites, Derek and Shearsmith play so well off each other, Pemberton is scary af with all the twists being great and having a good push ending? Plus the mr mostofilies joke had me in tears Last night of the proms: I don’t really have words, but I know it’s good, in a very weird way. Here’s to hoping we only have to wait a year for the next series

I note that "How Do You Plead" of course only partly breaks the "no recurring actors other than P&S" rule for the rest of the series because of course Jacobi was an unseen voiceover in "The Devil of Christmas". Also I had somewhat different reactions to both that episode and to "Last Night of the Proms". The former I actually found genuinely terrifying when I gradually realised precisely what it was Webster had done, masterful piece of suspense there. As for the latter, I felt it was actually a good deal more ambiguous as to the whether the homeless man was indeed Jesus or now, and there's much in the Gospels to support the idea of the question being a moot point in the first place (e.g. Jesus' line that "just as you do to one of the least of these you do also to Me"), so it hit doubly hard as an interrogation of the question of "how would our country respond to Jesus in the present day?" with a suitably cynical answer. Also want to say again I loved "Wuthering Heist" and actually did manage to find it genuinely funny too.

then technically Jacobi didnt appear in the episode, his voice did.

I studied Commedia for two years in sixth form and I'd like JUST graduated at the time so when the first episode aired about ten seconds in I was like HOLY SHIT??? It felt like a strange cosmic coincidence that it came out exactly in time to truly maximise how insane it made me. it's funny because I'm ALSO a massive fan of upstart crow so again, ten seconds in i was like HOLY SHIT IT'S KATE?? all over again. I was also actually REALLY disappointed that they flat out explained it in the episode? Because for a moment I felt sooo clever for knowing what it was referencing lmao

This is not the best series, perhaps due to Covid, but I think you're spot on on the fact that we are all watching anticipating twists and details. Love Heist and Prom night episode, the others felt a bit mundane.. compared to other series

As a huuuuge inside no.9 fan I was kinda disappointed with series 6. *Pantalone* not a great start imo. self-referential and poking fun at the very nature of the program and it running out of steam didn't work for me. Just pointing things out but not doing anything with them seems redundant. Reservoir dogs meets Shakespearean..didn't work. 3/10 *Simon says* much much better. Really enjoyed this one. Got a very games of thrones vibe from this one. Brilliant tragic ending and a real great commentary on modern fan obsession culture. Stephen king vibes too 7/10 *Lip service* another decent one, intriguing build up, ending a little far fetched for me. The whole secret service assassination setup was okaaaay but didn't too much for me. Definitely watchable tho. 6/10 *Hurry up and wait* in mixed minds about this one. Watchable but felt like "inside no.9 for dummies". Twist ending was telegraphed very early on and wasn't shocking imo. 4/10 *How do you plead* really enjoyed this one. Very dark episode with a supernatural twist that I thought worked really well. I didn't see the twist coming and thought this was more of the standard of earlier series.nothing groundbreaking but very enjoyable watch 7.5/10 *Last night at the proms* even for the BBC this one was preachy. The very very political leaning of this one felt unnatural to the show traditional roots. I prefer my no.9 dark, murderous and comedic over political satire and theological. Not bad but felt very pandering 5/10

I think this might be my least favourite series of Inside Number 9 to date, and even then I enjoyed every episode except Last Night of the Proms, which I felt was one of the weakest things they've put out: really blunt and unsubtle messages and weak characterisation, which they're usually so expert at. It just made me cringe throughout, and not in an enjoyable way. It felt like there was a lot of set-up (e.g. the teenage son drinking the alcohol, which didn't really seem to go anywhere) just for a ridiculous and unengaging conclusion. On the other hand, I really liked Lip Service and Wuthering Heist, and actually my third favourite would probably be Hurry Up and Wait, for its creepy atmosphere and twisted point of view.
