If you want a Structural-lite base coat and/or diamond lime plaster,
Google, Plastering yards near me," Like Westside's Building materials, they have material yards in Oakland, ca., and many other areas.
As HD, Lowes, and many other hardware stores claim, they sell these materials.
As so many email me to say! Hey! Kirk, I can't find Diamond Lime Plaster.
Diamond is simply a name like "Imperial.
There are other lime plasters made by USG. If you can't find Diamon, so what.
Buy another lime plaster. USG calls their lime plaster "Diamond," and one has to" admit it's a clever name for lime plaster. Why?
Diamonds are minerals composed of pure carbon. It is the hardest naturally occurring substance known. Damned clever lime naming, if you asked me? Google, Lime Plaster, is sold in my area.
Lime plaster is a mixture of lime, water, and aggregates used to bring uniformity to interior walls and ceilings through smooth or decorative finishes.
• Interior Lime finish f... lime plastering kitchens.
• Plastering over sheetr... Lime Veneer Plasters to a bathroom wall.
• Interior lime plaster ... plastering, veneer plastering.
Why apply lime anyway? Earthen plasters can improve your health.
They are non-toxic, contain no VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and clay and lime even resist mold growth.

I've been in many ancient buildings in places like Morocco, Spain and Egypt. I'd often notice the fragrance of fresh, cool air, which was puzzling because old USA buildings are often musty and humid. About a year ago I caught onto lime plaster as quite possibly being the cause of good air in old buildings. My dream house is currently under construction and I will be experimenting with lime plaster.

Well most of those ancient buildings are huge stone structures with no insulation and allow a lot of natural ventilation, so it should be somewhat expected. They are allowed to breathe. They are also located in dry (less humid) and snow-free locations so moisture/insulation not as much of a concern.

Thanks for continuing to share Kirk. My brother in law is a plasterer in Raleigh, NC. He (and his father before him} preferred Redtop Finish Coat which he recently used on doing my house. I picked it up for him at a plaster supply in Richmond, VA where they apparently use it in restoration work in the old city.

Morning Doug Dude, LOL, man, I wish I'd have known that years ago; I just googled Richmond, VA. From my house, that is only a mere 40-hour drive, no problemo. Or wait, on second thought, it's Imperial or Diamond Lime for my client unless they get the Redtop. The fact is my brother, I have used Redtop LIme; personally, I can't tell the difference between any of the plastering materials except that some are less weight than others.😉

Morning Super Clean Dude, man, that's just beautiful. I think real anxieties come when we move from our parent's home to the sometimes wicked and cruel world into a new reality. If we're fortunate to be able to work our arse off to keep food on the table; we may notice our fellow humans who for whatever reasons including and especially ethnicity, well, viewing that just brings on a different set of anxieties called empathy.🤔 We hope to bring a little peace, love, and harmony to all and ourselves in the process. Thank you for that comment, my brother.

Interesting trowel talk. I’m a drywaller by trade, I use Curry and Nela brand trowels ranging from 12”-24 “. The Nela trowels have a slightly rounded edge and have various degrees of flexibility. I mostly run drywall flat boxes on joints and beads, but I use trowels for my top coat. Sometimes I use my sprayer to do my skim coat, then wipe it down with trowels or wipe down blades

I watched a lot of your videos when I was working on my late 1800s victorian, but in the end we ran out of time for restoring the walls that had had plaster replaced with drywall and sold it as it was (a surprising amount of original plaster was intact!). Now it's a few years later and we're looking at a house again (1970s, nothing special), and I find myself revisiting your channel and trying to convince myself it would be too hard or time consuming to use lime plaster during the renovation. I just love the look and feel of the finish, and the health benefits sure seem plausible. Thanks for all you do!

In the UK there are many buildings well over 100 years old. They were built on relatively shallow footings. The lime cement (unlike Portland) remains fairly plastic allowing the brickwork to move. Portland cement in the same situation would result in separation of brickwork. Also, The walls are solid brick allowing moisture into the house. Lime plaster (lime and sand - no adaptive) can breath allowing the house to breath. I think what you are doing here is a lime finish - not lime plastering.

Morning Sean, been there and done that too, there were pipes installed at a "Jack in the Box," we stuccoed about 20 years ago, the GC wanted them to be filled with concrete, as protection or border from cars hitting a crucial area. The GC thought he'd be cute and asked me to fill them with stucco. I did. The only difference is I had one of my guys hold the bucket at the top while I hand funneled it in. The real difference is I had my brother mix soup, and we poured it in. All mortars will harden, whether soupy or stiff. This is because we added water to the powered stucco, causing it to start the set process. Like oxygen to our veins, without the oxygen, we are stagnant and tired all the time, how does one get oxygen to their veins? Doing anything physical, preferably strenuous physical stuff like plastering or washing dishes.😉

Learned a lot from this one. I have found it difficult to find a lot of info on plaster and stucco. There are a few textures I would like to see how to do. I saw the ceiling of a porch (1930s?) that had a stucco finish. It looked like big drops of stucco were dripping from the ceiling. Kind of like a cave. These drips must of been 2 or 3 inches long. Looked really cool. How did they get them shaped like that and keep them from falling before they dried? Also, my 1920s cheap Craftsman house has plaster on sawn wood lathe. Most was covered with sheetrock before I owned it. The kitchen and bath still have plaster. The kitchen is a smooth finish and still in mostly good shape. The bath has a few loose spots and a few small patches that don't match. It has a pebbly finish, not sure what term to use to describe it. Stippled? It is like you put a trowel flat on it and pulled straight out. Looking at it closely, it is a very thin layer over a flat, rough plaster. Maybe it was rolled on? Whatever it is has been there a long time and has some large, hard particles in it. I have also seen a pretty wall that was finished in random arcs. At the Grant-Kohrs Ranch House in MT, the walls were mostly smooth, but had some imprints here and there. Maybe 2 or 3 inch circle, as if the edge of a small blade was placed against the plaster and twisted. Sometimes it was a full circle and sometimes a partial circle. Not overdone, just enough to add visual interest. That is all the stuff I have been curious about. Keep up the good work.

Can plaster finish be applied directly to the interior foam on an ICF wall Kirk? Seems like it would be the way to go VS drywall and personally I like the way a plaster interior feels vs Sheetrock.
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, friends from the readiness channel, I have not worked with this foam insulation board, so I need to know the facts. I suppose it's similar to the styrofoam exterior stucco finishes Like Stow or the Dry-Vit stucco system. We have many years of experience applying exterior stucco over, with too many ways to list here. Is the interior substrate or finish installed styrofoam or cementitious like the substrate or wallboards in this video? If it's styrofoam, your right, you can sheetrock over it or perhaps use Fiberglass reinforced 3-foot mesh over attached with poly-bond or any other cementitious adhesive coatings. As it is styrofoam, even with a bonding agent, I wouldn't try to apply tapping mud, drywall joint compound, or any lime plasters unless you first embed fiberglass mesh netting with a cementitious adhesive like poly-bond. La Habra's poly bond is specifically engineered to attach fiberglass mesh netting to styrofoam or styrofoam molds to the exteriors of stucco homes. But back to your original question, you're trying to figure out an alternative to sheetrock and or the time-consuming method of Poly-Bond and Fiberglass-mesh nettings to save on time and materials? There is a new plaster out, well, new for the USA, it has been used in Turkey for a long time called Kemset, this is High rated for fire and sound-proofing, plus free of lye and silica just pure healthy Lime plaster, perfect and safe, for interior use. I believe Kemset to have more insulation values than Structo-lite, which has been used in schools, hospitals, police stations, etc., for more than a hundred years. If you were to try and cover styrofoam, that would be the plaster I would recommend for too many reasons to list here. Kemset can be applied from 3/8 to 2 inches inside. Phone Hikmet for sales of Kemset products and ask to speak to his engineers at562-285-2790. I'm an experienced applicator and expert on products; however, I am not qualified to say that this is your man or plaster. BTW, Interesting question.🤔 Kirk giordano plastering

@@StuccoPlastering ICF blocks are a stackable form with insulating foam of some type making up each side ( interior And exterior sides) once the walls are stacked the inside cavity is filled with concrete and the walls are basically built. I just thought it would be easier to finish interior walls if plaster could be applied directly to the foam wall that your left with vs screwing drywall into the plastic trunians inside them. Hi Nick, not really, It was exterior finishing La Habra finish base 100, which is a white lime stucco, we added the tint, Dove Grey. What's the difference between multi-finish and finishing plaster? Multi-finish from British Gypsum is probably about the best around as it is suitable for most surfaces. Board finish is also available, this is only for use on plasterboard and cannot be used on browning or bonding plaster. Finishing plaster is normally applied as a final coat and is about 2mm thick.
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot

@@StuccoPlastering hey Kirk. Ahh ok got you, it looked like interior plaster. Multi finish is our finishing plaster here, it’s called multi as it can go on numerous backgrounds, from painted surfaces to render (stucco), to plasterboard. We also have board finish which is meant to be just for plasterboard but you can use it anywhere too. I suppose the most similar one you guys use is diamond veneer, which I believe is a one coat system, whereas our finishing plasters are two coats

@@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Yeah, we are hand-cuffed to what's sold here. I can and have applied one coat of diamond plaster in many videos. However, for hospitals, schools and such, code calls for the basecoat and top coat. With one coat of just the finish, those who don't have a lot of time in will press or trowel down too hard which often separates the finish from the surface and or creates excess bubbling and blistering. I like to show while explaining many methods for getting the same goal

You trowel manufacturers, especially in India, yes they make lots of plastering tools there. What it cost to make one 3 dollars, place them on Amazon, send me one, and I'll tell folks where to get it as these trowels should be affordable to the masses, not the few! But, again, folks, a full radius is for concrete where you place much pressure to push the rocks in the cement, plus the width is only at most 3 to 4 inches wide, useless for plastering or stucco work. The only reason they're not? Supply and demand keep the prices up.

If you mixed in 30 different plasters, which I could not see, and had thirty pieces of sheetrock, I would be able to spread every one of them, and the fact is, so could you. Hi James, you are describing two finishes. One is a sand finish which can be fine to heavy and be at least 20 different shades of sandy, the other is a dash which again can be light to very heavy. If it looks like a popcorn ceiling, it's a dash. Type in-dash interior finishes. If that's not your textures, type in sand interior finishes, and Voila, you are closer to finding out the true texture instead of guessing. Once you know for sure which it is, then type in "how to match it." Whatever texture it is, I have done it, perhaps 40 times. Lidia, that's so cute of a question like your picture. Unfortunately, you or I can't use beach sand as it contains salt, which weakens stucco or concrete. Dubi, for example, is a desert with trillions of tons of sand, but the wrong kind of sand for cement or stucco. Thus this rich nation employs fleets of ships that are even larger than, say, Princess, Carnival, or even Royal to remove the sand for the bottoms of the oceans so that they can build their skyscrapers. This is off-topic, but why this is why islands are disappearing; the ocean bottoms need to make up for that removed sand by taking the sand back from nearby or far away islands. Sorry, that my rambling. Bottom line, don't use beach sand except to play in or for your cat litter box.🤔

Hello, Jennie. No, however, there are many more fantastic products out there for doing floors, just type into google what you're interested in learning, and as the wizard from Oz, it will show you many different topics.

Hi, it is possible to apply lime plaster over a wall which has gypsum plaster on it. Thanks
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
of course, you can, it is in fact most of the world does, you first need a bong agent on that wall, buy quikrete at HD or lowes or whatever hardware store you have there, about 8 bucks a bottle simply roll or paint it on first then lime away.

Hello sure, buy, Quikrete bonding agent at home depot, it's as good, just not blue. Apply to the surface of what you're going to plaster, not in the mix.

What plaster color product did you use.
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering Жыл бұрын
Hi Gayle, I used Diamond lime plaster for the plaster. Regarding colors, you can add any of the color packs that La Habra or any other stucco companies sell. These color packs are easily found at plastering yards. Thus google plastering yards near me. Or some Home Depots also sell these color packs, Best wishes.

Evening Ray, all I can do is talk with the computer person and have them fix this stuff, hopefully by next week, apologies. Unfortunately, I have no clues as to why it does this shit every few months.

Morning Bee Friendly Dude, that sounds about right, chemicals can kick our arse, I'm proof, I have inhaled so much toxic stuff even when as a child living next door to a chemical plant for the first 17 years of life, where the fumes from the 40 acid vats were about 20 feet from my bedroom window, and that's the tip of the iceberg. Man, I used to love that smell of chrome plating steel all day and night. Not sure why I'm still alive. If I were to guess, I'd say it's from applying stucco or hustling with this so-called hard work that creates oxygen and blood traveling through the veins? Now, I'll have to google who Bob Ross is? Cheers.😉

Can this be used in shower walls?
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
Evening Bill, I hate to say this, but it is the truth. Stay away from all types of plasters in a shower.🤔 This includes all Structo-lite, and all the Veneer-based or lime-based pretty finished and deep rich pretty colored pure lime finished plasters. Even if your shower has an advanced exhaust system, I don't recommend any plastering systems in the shower itself. Although I don't anymore, you can apply lime-based plaster as even these lime plasters mold fast and must be sealed every 6 months; who has time for this nonsense? Either tile or attach the plastic shower sheets. Hell, even the caulking and grouts will mold in time, aging, don't apply any limes in a shower. You can use lime or veneer-based plasters for all other areas but leave the shower alone or face mold in the future.🏝 You will, like me, still have to re-caulk every few years, but your walls won't mold within a few months like every plaster known to man will. Now you know.
