Good info. Im in the roofing bis. Our siding guy tells us ALL windows leak at the corners. Flashing must come down over the roof flashing to shed water properly. Kirks the best!!!

You're the man Kirk! Flashing details are essential. Use the best materials you can don't wrap the house wrap under your header, always use zbar at least once and preferably twice one over window and once over header trim

@@h2s-i9o Howdy, the majority of home repairs we do is because of low to no maintenance. If most home owners realized the importance of painting every 7 to ten years, in the long run they could go on holidays more often with the money saved for wood rot repairs.👷

yep, you are correc t ,Kirk. I've done remodeling for quite the number of years and it's very important to have the underlayment of felt paper for the trim on the outside of the windows, i learnt that from my Grandpa many years ago. what i find weaird is they wanted 8,000.00 for matching trim , Wow.

@@quixstation145 I should have made it clear that was for 6 windows, a year before this job we ran into the same issue, the owners coughed up at least that amount for one wall with about 7 windows. All to keep the home original. We’re just the stucco guys, this is a a GC’s choice. I’d say it’s a tough call.

Such incredible videos! Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Question: I have a 1930's stucco tudor that has stucco that extends below grade, as most of that period do. Mudsill is above grade. Would you recommend breaking the stucco and adding a screed to prevent ground contact with stucco?
@StuccoPlastering11 күн бұрын
@@mola5164 Not really, my own home the stucco went also to the ground, a code of using the metal weep or drip screeds was introduced into law around 1975. Thus all homes before this date the stucco does indeed touch the ground. We have installed the weep screed’s on certain situation, such as sidewalk not set properly meaning they slant back into the home, keeping the stucco wet all winter long.🕵🏼♀️

I cannot understand how putting the flashing under the trim works. It seems like it would just be a clean path to draw water under the trim? What am I missing?
@StuccoPlastering12 күн бұрын
@@Factory400 Look at it like a jar of Mayonnaise, it too like most jars has a sort of gasket like all car engines have hundreds of gaskets. Now remove the gasket fill the mayo jar with water carry it around for a while eventually all the water will leak out. Wood to wood can’t be made to waterproof, just like steal to steal would leak like a sieve. Bottom line you don’t have to understand the principle of the necessity of flashing, if you’re installing windows your installer does. 😉

INSTEAD OF THE EXPENSIVE ORNATE TRIM AROUND THE WINDOWS IM THINKING REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING LESS ORNATE AND MITER THE CORNERS. 1 x 3 from HOME Depot use a router on the inside. Put paper behind it then paint. $150 vs $7-8k. It'd look very similar from a short distance.

@@drumtwo4seven exzackory, but he did have a few others too, most folks with homes over a hundred years old especially in that neighborhood choose the exzact replica, we made it work it just took a long time to pull nails and brads and many tubes of sikaflex caulking.
