• Resurface uneven concr... Alternative way to Resurface uneven concrete with cement plaster.
BMI 690.
For the big holes, I mixed half sand with half Polybond. Remember, the Poly bond is created for styrofoam and is not advised to dilute as I am doing.
However, I have done this many times in the last 35 years successfully.

However, I don’t recommend the Poly-Bond system I used in this video to use this resurfacing system.
Because the materials needed can’t be found at HD or Lowes, but only at the plastering yards, slaking is involved.
Also, motor oils and grease are complex to pressure wash off driveways or walkways where cars have leaked oil. On the other hand, dust, dirt, or moss on stucco walls are easy to wash off now.
Remember, it’s just there to drive over. So why break the bank for that.
I pressure washed with a force of 3,000 to 3,500 psi force.
Nothing, not even the strongest caulking, will adhere to a surface where cars have driven over and, more than likely, leaked oils or transmission fluid. The oil absorbs deeply into concrete, and that powerful force is required to remove it. If it’s not clean enough to eat off, your product won’t adhere.
Notice the water in the street and the pressure washer? it does not need to be dripping just moist.
Unlike a wall, no one drives cars that leak oil on walls.
That’s only in comic books or movies.
When folks are driving and walking on it, this causes vibrations and adds to the extra care necessary to clean it well.
Remember, vibrations with any cementitious finish, especially flat surfaces such as a driveway, are like kryptonite to Superman, not good.
Plus, the material I used is not sold at either of these stores but only plastering yards as it is precisely engineered to attach styrofoam to base-coated walls.
Also, folks can google concrete self-leveling or resurfacing products. There are more than the three mentioned above. I added these three as I’m familiar with their product’s excellent history of quality. All can be purchased at either Home Depot or Lowes.
Today I’d recommend BMI 690 with fibers; it’s lime stucco. It’s stronger. And much more user-friendly. Google plastering yards near me for this incredibly strong and flexible stucco.

I did something similar, way larger driveway, lots of cracks from root expansion. Trees are now gone. Diamond cut the cracks wide open, filled with rapid set cement all, then went over it all with Portland/glue mix. All home Depot stuff. Maybe spent $150, would of been 15-20k for new driveway.

question - most of the other 'topping' or 'resurfacers' I check suggest water spray to a dry drive or concrete pad before use. you seemed to spread the Polybond directly onto dry concrete . is there a reason your solution works w/o the preliminary water applied? you also mention some extra water at the end hardens the job. seems like a very suitable solution Kirk. thanks for these useful uploads.

Would this technique work on my driveway? It was coated with concrete resurfacer after the original concrete was done 18 years ago.. The winters have caused 75% of the resurfacer to separate. The resurfacer is white. The concrete is not colored. Will it cover the remainder of the old resurfacer or will I need to grind it all off?

Good morning, my extreme friend. Excellent question.😉 I'd recommend you pressure wash off all the loose cement with a strong gas pressure washer. You will spin your wheels if you use an electric one as none have the necessary water pressure power to remove oil that has leeched into concrete for often years. Keep in mind for walls it's important to remove dust dirt and grime. For driveways, the oil's take much longer to remove; thus, it's necessary to use a lot of force with a turbo tip and perhaps some soaps, as if not clean enough to eat off no product will last more than a year or two.😉 Also, after pressure washing, there will be some areas that you may still have to scrape off by hand with a shovel or trowel; this is normal. FYI, in the description, there are many more professional resurfacing concrete products that are easily found at all the HD and lowes stores. Our unique plastering Tip: all subscribers or anyone who stumbles on our channel with a question, type it into our Stucco/Plastering channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. I'm also trying to add nice smooth curves ("transitions") to the bottoms of jersey-barriers to make them into little ramps.

When mixed you have about 15 minutes to pour it as it's the strongest concrete sold. However, it sets super fast. teaching plastering do’s, don'ts and reasons why Live long and plaster.

I would love to see that as well I have picky clients always wanted me to do this do that with overlayment and I'm scared away of the end future result so I'm really trying to get more into this to please more high end clients with nearly impossible concerns thanks

Parging is fine for block, dont paint it, it seals in moisture and freezes and cracks off the surface in time, especially on a chimney

Morning Ben, if applied properly forever. Mine lasted 20 years but forklifts and my big truck are driven over it a lot, plus the tree roots dont help. Kirk Giordano

I'm guessing I could do this to my garage floor where the concrete has areas where gas and oil has caused it to break up. Is that right?

Gotta clean it REALLY well first. You'll need some pro grade degreaser and pressure washer. Oil is an excellent bond breaker. If you dont get it thoroughly clean your patch material will fail

My husband dumped Thinset on a bad spot on the garage floor more than 30 years ago. The hole was not properly prepared, cleaned or moistened. The patch is still in tact after all this time. Thinset is sold at Lowe’s, used for bonding tile to a wall or floor. After seeing your video, Kirk, we are going to tackle our garage floor like we mean it this time!

i have a jacked driveway. looks like it could be patched and skimmed, yet the concrete guy i had out here said NO and redo the whole thing. :/ reminds me of the 2 electricians who said recessed lighting in living room *could not be done.* found my current contractor who's like wtf that's easy. (and installed it easily with a fishing wire) and said "maybe they were too fat to do their job" like go in the attic. those guys kept saying there wasn't access. anyway, point is.......... it's annoying how contractors will say NO, or NOT POSSIBLE, or TEAR IT ALL OUT. and i get that *a LOT.* needed to level out a floor in the back of the house. the guy wanted to tear out the entire subfloor! wth??? i just didn't wanna mess with leveling compound, myself. anyway, driveway i expect is the same. gonna have to do it myself since i can't seem to find a contractor that is interested in doing a regular old repair. i do NOT have the $$$$ for a full pour right now, at all. i need a patch. and i know they're good for a few years usually. (anyway thanks for the demo!)

$4k 8 years ago for that tiny job? Someone got screwed, hard. It's 2023 and I had 32ft of single car driveway removed and replaced, 6 inches thick, for $3800.

But for a driveway guys, do ya really wanna spend that kinda money? Finally, the voice of reason. Had a local contractor quote me $3500 just to repair my approch of 64 sq ft! All they were going to do is fill the cracks with polyurethane caulk and tamp cold patch asphalt. Trash!!!

Howdy Bill, For the large patches I added about twice to three times as much sand, this is a fix that takes time in. In the description there is a more straightforward and much more homeowner friendly product, that is sold at Home Depot.
