Stuck City pulling everyone out of the sand.

So many people stuck lately at the pass. It must be spring break. My traction control wasn't working today so my wheels weren't spinning evenly. New wheel speed sensor has already been ordered. Special thanks to Dr. Mann for filming some of the videos and my brother.

The very first thing you should do before hitting the beach is to reduce your tire pressure to 23 PSI.

There is a little bit of a mound of sand there that is really deep. The jeep wrangler in the beginning was stuck in the same spot. Not aired down of course.

You might want to put a soft shackle thru the receiver hitch then put the snatch strap on that rather than putting the strap loop in the receiver in case the pin bends and gets stuck. Then you won't lose the strap, just unhook the soft shackle.

Are wider tires better or not? I have a 500' stretch of soft powdery sand in central Florida I've been stuck in before. My small van is FWD 4 cylinder and has done surprisingly well in sand with a curb weight of only 3500lb, but I carry a lot of tools. I think when I've been stuck it was from spinning or trying to reverse in it. Stock tires are tiny/thin 215/55r16 and I'd like to go with 245/50r16s (inch wider) next time. I carry recovery boards, a shovel and a winch, but even with all that I had to spend the night one time.

Contact patch is what matters and the percent difference you gain from going wider would be the deciding factor for me. Deflating those tires and the length it adds is where you get better contact patch size. Deflating the rear wheels will also help even though those tires aren't driven by anything.

This is scary. These people don’t seem to understand that in sand. 1. Weight is the enemy 2. You have to cut your Traction Control off 3. You have to Air Down to the 15psi range 4. You have to have the right tires 5. You need 4Low 6. You need a fire extinguisher in case you overheat your transmission or something else. Not sure where this is but in DelMarVa you are not allowed on the beach without recovery gear

@@annakessler9372 4Low is the lowest gear a true 4WD vechicle has. Some companies try to trick you by giving you a “crawl mode” while cute , it’s just not the same thing. Some companies have an electric transfer case. Still not the same thing. Beach sand is an entirely different animal.

Two speed transfer case has high and low gears. Usually like 1:1 and low 1:2.7

@Nomen Clature Yes Assateague while pretty. Is not for the faint of heart. The problem other than the Soft Sand is the ruts created by the large 4x4 trucks. A real jeep with a transfer case is whate you need. You also need a fire extinguisher. Not for yourself but for the people who burn out transmissions and tires

@Nomen Clature Lifted trucks not using BFG tires. There may be others but I have found in my 40 plus years of riding on the Assateague and Delaware beaches BFG tires have been the only tires that didn’t have sidewall failures when aired down .

@elTripaSeca Maybe on a smooth beach for 100 yards. Throw in some small mounds and it's going to be a rough ride. 4x4 will allow you to drive with caution. The beach is littered with air dams, bumpers, engine covers, and other parts from cars that were driving too fast and bottomed out.

If you aren't moving forward you need to get out and see why. Just brushing out a little sand in front of your tires will get you moving again. And turn off traction control.

If you aren't moving forward you are likely sinking. Figure out why. Use kinetics, make sure to connect solid points, don't pull on tow balls, make sure your cooling system works, use a shovel to make a ramp if you're pulling someone down on both, don't use damaged equipment, make sure the person you're pulling has the wheel straight and is helping you. looks like SLP? i used to fish there a lot about 20 yrs ago. apparently these new people don't know to lower their tire pressure to 15lbs or less. i hardly ever had a problem with a fwd honda cr-v. i had recover boards, shovel, snatch strap, and tire inflator.

You get coarser sand along the beachfront. This is windblown along an inlet, so it's really fine. It's also really variable in this video where hardback and soft sand are. Some people aren't able to tell the difference.

@2ligit2 A lot of times, you don't have the option of not stopping. There are coppice mounds that are 1-2 feet tall that would wreck a front end if you hit them hard enough, other cars, and people. Watch some of those videos from last summer, and you will see that even the 4wds were struggling, even when aired down.
