This legitimately saved my faucet upgrade project! I had 3 of these stupid things stuck like they were holding the earth together. I didn’t have a 3/8 bit but I made a bunch of holes in each one with my 1/4 bit and somehow that freed them up to unscrew off!! Thank you!!!!!

I'm an 85lb Elder & I'm happy to report both methods worked for me. I used your method for the plastic nuts on the toilet, but resorted to the (yes, I had PVC laying around) PVC method for the plastic nuts on the kitchen sink. At the back of the sink with little room, the length of the PVC help immensely with the leverage. And the RIDGID was even to wide to fit, that's how close it was.

Great brute force tip, and pretty much guaranteed success. Another option to try if the tabs are intact, is tapping on them with a flat head screw driver and hammer. Mine would not move at all, but the tapping trick got both of them going so I could finish removing them by hand !

those super easy to install but impossible to uninstall design is just irresponsible, they lure you to their product then what happens after is none of their problem. hand tightened but requires 30 oxen and an elephant to remove.

You just saved my sanity. I was getting so mad and knew there had to be a better way. Why I never thought to bust out the power tools, I’ll never know. I was going to use the drill like you did and I also had a Rockwell Oscillating Tool. Voila! That worked like a charm! When I saw you cutting them I ran, picked up my dremel with a metal blade ( mine were metal ) took me a bit, they were so corroded, but finally they came out. I spent all afternoon yesterday. Thank you for this video. Had two plastic nuts that would not budge. Basin wrench broke the fins but didn't get the nuts to turn. Hair dryer and pliers didn't work etc. Got the 3/8" drill bit and said a little prayer and within 20 seconds the first one cracked and popped off. The next one took about 40 seconds and that one was off. Incredible. You saved me hours I am guessing with your simple and common sense method.

Use a wood carving tool (hot) to melt two lines on each side. Then, pop them off with a screw driver

@@BradGriffey good point, but this is entirely intended for the common homeowner who probably has a drill. Having wood burning or even soldering iron is probably less likely than the tool for this plumbing job for most people. Good idea if you have one though.

A couple of the knobs broke using one basin wrench so I went and bought the more expensive one which just broke off the other 2 knobs. I had just admitted defeat and was about to give up then God said YT it. So I did and found you. I can’t tell you how good it felt to drill holes into that damn thing and then break it apart! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I am a beginner at maintenance tasks and learning as I go along. I was trying to change a toilet seat and the plastic nuts were not moveable at all and the metal bolts were rusted. WD-40 did nothing. I was only able to loosen them enough to make the old toilet seat very wiggly. This did the trick and I successfully completed the job!

Great idea! I remember using a torch to melt them off, but the dripping burning bits o' plastic weren't nice to deal with. Your solution is far saner. Anything that cuts through them is brilliant. I might even use my oscillating multitool. I'm contemplating replacing my kitchen sink faucet so that's why I searched this to get my strategy ironed out before I tackle it. Thanks!

Best of luck. A flat head screwdriver (preferably bigger) will help you pry and chisel. It's not a fun job but this makes it at least possible. It's worth it in the end

I did happen to have a piece of pvc pipe laying around. I made those tiny notches in the PVC just like you showed in the video. Worked like a charm. Wow did you save me from a lot of stress.

Worked great! I didn't have to drill too much. I drilled the holes right next to the threads. One hole drilled on each nut and the loosened up and I unscrewed them. Thank you!

Thanks for your great suggestion. It worked perfectly with my 20 year old, ridiculously stuck plastic faucet nuts. I was considering getting my Dremel out, or giving up and calling a plumber, but this was much easier and cheaper.

The first one drilled out easily, the second one took alot more drilling and was almost plastic pulp when it finally started to move but I got those sucker off. I used a flathead, penetrating oil, a rubber mallet, and probably a few months off the remaining life of my shoulder socket trying to get this loose. Thank you for this - popped the sucker off and replaced it for $1.50 at Home Depot.

Best of luck, best thing to do is not to be too cautious. Chances are you are throwing away the spout.... So the threaded pipes don't matter either! Drill away!

this is what worked for me I bought one of those basin nut tools and it was just rusted on too tight. nice part is installing the new facet took like 5 minutes once the old one was out.
