I got stuck in an elevator with my friend once. He thought it was funny to press all of the buttons and jump up and down. We got stuck between two floors, 3rd and 4th. The elevator was made of glass, people walking by looking at us and continued with their day like there was nothing wrong. we got out when a lady walked by and helped us out. She had seen us from a distance. No one was picking up the emergency call button, which was a little concerning... :)

He didn't kick the door. There was a sensor on the frames that stops the elevator if they feel that something like a foot is in the way. This is to prevent someone from getting their fingers stuck between the floors and the car.

Well the solution to an elevator with no inner doors is to have sensors that stops the elevator if something is in the sensors way. This is to keep from getting their fingers stuck between the car and the floors. In this video, this stop mechanism confused the elevator and made it stuck. But it's better getting stuck then losing your fingers ;D

It probably dials the number of a remote monitoring facility, and then dials a code of some sort which identifies the elevator (perhaps with a few intentional delays, maybe the long bleeps are where it is waiting to dial the next part)

It's an old elevator. Most old elevators didn't have inner doors. The ones that had inner doors had to be opened and closed manually. But this was not good. Because if you left the inner door open. The elevator could not move. Meaning that people with disability's had to wait for someone to close the inner door. Not having a inner door made it much easier. Now we have automatically closing and opening inner doors so this is no longer a problem.

Why over-pit elevator? It's level elevator isn't. What purpose service fixtures that elevator to make sure the way level floor properly. Some people think were going do something to ride by elevator.
