@kellycook37513 жыл бұрын
Because they were produced by Paul, who also does some background vocals and they were on the Beatles Apple label.
@gregsager20623 жыл бұрын
@@kellycook3751 McCartney only produced one single for Badfinger, "Come and Get It" (which he also wrote), plus a couple of other songs for the film *The Magic Christian* (which starred Ringo, by the way). George Harrison produced part of an entire album (*Straight Up*) for Badfinger, including "Day After Day" (on which Harrison played one of the slide guitar parts). The other part, including the album's other hit, "Baby Blue", was produced by Todd Rundgren. The Beatles comparisons are really unfair. Yeah, Badfinger did get input from three of the four Beatles (Lennon coined the band's name), and they were on the Beatles' label, Apple Records -- but they were a great band in their own right, and they deserved so much better than the shoddy way that they were treated by labels and the outright theft of their money by their manager that uiltimately led to the dual tragedies of losing two members of the band to suicide.

Not sure if I'd go that far. They were good, but when you mention Scottish bands the first one that pops into my mind is Nazareth. Many hits and a much greater longevity than Stealers Wheel, who had something of a revolving door of members and even relied on studio musicians. Now, if you add Gerry Rafferty's discography to the Stealers Wheel discography, then we're talking a competition. ✌

One song by a Scottish band that should prompt Andy & Alex to set the Wayback Machine for the turn of the decade when the '60s became the '70s is "Reflections of My Life" by Marmalade.

This song was inspired by a party that the band attended for their record label, fully of "clowns" and "jokers" from the industry who had no idea about the music. Lead singer, Gerry Rafferty, later had some of the iconic hits of the 1970s as a soloist: "Baker Street", "Get it Right Next Time", and "Right Down the Line" - all of which demand to be reviewed. Stealers Wheel had a few minor hits, like "Star" and "Everything Will Turn Out Fine", but "Stuck in the Middle" was huge.

@gregsager20623 жыл бұрын
"Star" got to #29 in the United States. Therefore, Stealer's Wheel is only a one-hit wonder if you draw the line at, say, the *Billboard* Top 10 or the Top 20 instead of the Top 40.
@jpcanes3 жыл бұрын
@@gregsager2062 Casey Kasem counted down the Top 40 songs of the week (Billboard), so the threshold for a "hit" is Top 40.
@gregsager20623 жыл бұрын
@@jpcanes I agree. I think that #40 on the *Billboard* Hot 100 is the true threshold of a genuine hit. But some people use the Top Ten, or the Top Twenty, as their yardstick instead, based upon the idea that nobody remembers singles that failed to make it that high. Frankly, I think that for a lot of people the term "one-hit wonder" means, "an artist who only made one song that I've ever heard before," or, "an artist who only has one song that oldies radio stations ever play."
@grangerjung41293 жыл бұрын
