Watch for wires on the Feather River… Always keep your hand on the throttle during takeoff.

Ahhhhhh! I noticed my hand coming off the throttle making the video. I didn’t realize I was doing that during takeoff 😬😂

Bought a Chief skeleton back in 78 after getting my A&P. $600 ugly bucks. 2 years later it was glorious and so fun to fly. Sold it for $12,000 and upgraded to Tri-Pacer rebuild I got for $2,000. Still got it.

There’s this bond between a pilot and their airplane 😍 … I got it too. Your love for the Chief is evident ! I like your videos because it’s the same kind of flying I do. Keep them coming.

Maul!!!! That was so awesome. Very fun and glad you have been building all that strength at F3 to get the ol chief out of the sand haha. Great video. I personally also really liked the sped up video flying down there

I wasn’t sure I was getting out of there either! 😂 fortunately the ol Chief is light enough one guy can muscle it around pretty well!

Hmm, I would have walked it and checked out that soft end. No wind so you could takeoff from either end, the other end seemed firmer…. I think I would have taken off from the other end and the soft stuff would be a non-factor… but then again you did not show us the other end in detail. Good job, love your videos
@trustyaeronaut2 ай бұрын
@@Bearhawk_Life yeah, to be honest, I didn’t realize it was that soft until I started sinking into the sand. After this storm, I want to go back and spend a bit more time looking at both ends and measuring the distance and also doing a bit more taxi testing with the Chief in sand. Probably bring a friend in case I get stuck again 😂😂😂

Love the videos…..this was one of the first planes I saw a year back as I’m new to the sport and was looking for a plane. Will never forget this plane as I saw it at the Palm Springs airport for 25k and not knowing much, I called for information about the plane and found it wasn’t airworthy….the guy seemed shady to begin with. Good times…might get one down the line. Thanks for the content, from the Central Valley California 👍🏽.

I put the 26" Alaska Bushwheel Airstreaks on my Champ but they are like $1400 each so not everybody's cup of tea. Also have a Scott 3200 tailwheel which is hard to beat. For solo off airport stuff I'd suggest avoiding islands, if you break something you're really stuck.

I almost had to make the call! haha. Once I got back up on top of the sand, it got rolling pretty easy tho. I think as long as I don't turn or stop the chief can handle some pretty soft sand.
