We did the Sky Bridge pumpkin drop in Gatlinburg in 2022. What a hoot!
@trustyaeronaut9 сағат бұрын
Yeah, it’s pretty fun!
@AmarilloMusicAB2 күн бұрын
What is the actual point? It could kill someone, and it didn’t even look cool. Plus it’s a waste of produce.
@trustyaeronaut2 күн бұрын
I suppose the point of it is in the eye of the beholder. As far as safety is concerned, we briefed the drop before hand and had a person the ground with a radio to ensure the DZ was clear.
@AmarilloMusicAB2 күн бұрын
@@trustyaeronaut I guess the camera was unmanned, but from the first shot you can see people directly below the plane. But I get it, I’m sure it’ll be a good memory for your daughter.
@trustyaeronaut2 күн бұрын
@ ah yeah, they are farther off centerline than it looks. The score keepers were a bit closer to the drop zone, but our unguided “ordinance” drops pretty much directly under the path of the plane so it’s not difficult to stay out of harms way. 😂

@flycoopfly8 күн бұрын
Those were all nice wheel landings, if you ask me. I always did 3-point landings until my tailwheel springs flew off during a 'shimmy' problem. Then I started working on wheel landings. It's fun... they're all different. It was/is hard for me hard to fight that urge to flare, and hard to go from the 'hold it off the runway' to the 'fly it onto the runway' method. But if we were robotically-great at everything it would be so boring to go flying. Any landing that doesn't result in a ground loop is a good one, as far as I'm concerned. Fun videos!
@trustyaeronaut7 күн бұрын
Haha! Yeah, I kind of aim for a tail low wheel landing now days, it seems easiest on the airframe. 🤔🤷 and if I get it just right, it’s really smooth! But most of time I get a little bounce or two.😂

This was such an incredible video. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for taking us along. Two quick questions re: Chief/Porterfield: 1) I am 6’1” 205 lbs I think my inseam is 33. Would I fit in either of those planes. 2) I live in Abq… our DA in the summers are pretty high. Even in the mornings it can be around 6100’. With Just me in there do you think either of them has the ability to takeoff? Thanks so much and I really enjoy all your videos. Jay
@trustyaeronaut9 күн бұрын
@@jayparmoon2116 Thanks for the comment I’m glad you enjoy them! You would be really tight sitting in the front seat of the Porterfield. You could probably get into it, but it would be tight. I’m 6’ and a bit heavier, and I feel crammed into the front seat. IF the Porterfield had the original header tank, I think you could solo it from the rear seat where there is a bit more leg room. The Chief is much easier to get in and out of, and when solo on long trips you can kick your legs sideways and stretch out nicely 😀 As for performance, I think any of the older 65hp taildraggers would be pretty much unusable for you. My old Pre-War Chief performs really well for some reason with the 85hp and I wouldn’t hesitate to pass through your area in the cooler months, but I would be paying close attention to the weather and temperatures. And I wouldn’t necessarily expect other old taildraggers with 85hp to perform as well as my Chief. For example, my Chief outclimbs a 100hp Luscome at our field 🤔 (I really want to do an old taildragger shootout video soon!) That probably isn’t what you want to hear, but it will be challenging to find something “affordable” that will perform comfortably at your altitude.
@jayparmoon21169 күн бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it!! I was very kind of you and it was a huge help. Thanks again! See if I can find a chief with 85 horses and sit in there and just see if I can wiggle my big can in there… Ha ha! Thank you again, and keep up the great work!
