My pony is very strange when she spooks. The scary stuffs are: Lightning , strange dirt , mini vans , sports cars, trash , and soccer balls. Not scary stuffs: dogs, pouring rain, thunder, cats, trucks, tractors, trailers, livestock, bushes, trees, poles, pipes, stones, cement, and tarps. Edit: oh wait some bushes are scary! 😆

I used to loan an ex police horse and he did everything fireworks, lorries, fires, dead animals, tractors, tarpaulin, coloured flappy things literally everything, he didn't care. Same I was riding an 18 hand standard bred he spooked at a tree branch falling. He bolted and we ended up jumping over a 65 cm log fallen tree so that was fun

Ya I got caught in a nasty storm while riding. It seem to show up out of no where! The wind blew heavy rain side ways right into our faces and then thunder and lightning! I thought for sure we would be dead!!!😄

I once got stuck in a really bad thunderstorm, I was with some kids on a hack as their guide and they all rode really sweet ponies, and when the lightning struck those little angels did nothing, but my dressage horse was uncontrollable and we were an hour away from the yard... Loved this video!!

I almost got stuck in a tornado while riding! We saw the thunderstorm coming & cut thru a car dealer lot & thru the shopping center & got thru a field then just across the street from the stables the wind was so hard the horses just dropped their heads & were pushing into the headwind. We thought it was just a bad thunderstorm? Come to find out the next day the paper showed pics of the cars tossed around in the car lot & shopping center where the tornado touched down! Missed it by minutes!!

Good god I couldn’t imagine being in that situation. Rain in general makes me really paranoid that it’s gonna be a lightning storm (mainly after that huge lightning storm the UK had at the beginning of summer) so I’d be crying in fear if I was in your situation lol EDIT: I’m on my way to horse riding now and it’s throwing it down in rain and the wind is terrible - Mollie I seriously hope this isn’t the storm you went through coming over to us 😂

I've got caught in a lightning storm in the woods and I can't say I enjoyed it, but the worst was being out in the open when a hailstorm came over. My pony just bolted and was zigzagging about because he was so terrified. Goodness knows how I stayed on! The hailstones were massive like golf balls. When we got back to the yard it was chaos as some horses had run through the fences and we had to call the vet.

I've never rode in a thunder storm but last winter me and two friends went out and got ourselves cought in a hail storm. Wasn't too fun but thank God all our horses behaved for the most part.

Do not canter on road with shod horses. Just trot and if you see a place to get under with your horse take cover. If the lightning strikes you you won’t know it. Do not get under trees. Stay safe .

It’s nice how the cars slow down for you. No one is that polite to horses or cyclists in the U.S.A. We have to haul our horses to state parks where there are trails to ride. How ever the parks are beautiful. Love your journey with your beautiful horses.

I had a fun little adventure with my pony on a hack. This was a day where I just wanted to get out and ride so I decided I would walk,trot,canter, and gallop the trail.( the trail was completely flat and was already trainer approved)A storm came out of nowhere and just started raining cats and dogs with huge thunderclouds. It had lightning and thunder and spooked my horse while we where going back to the barn. He spooked,bucked me off, and galloped home. I had to walk/crawl back to the barn. (Whenever I saw lightning I crawled to be a smaller object) got back to the barn and my pony was there eating hay like nothing ever happened. What a fun day.

Grace & Bella yeah, I only broke one rib but it healed up nicely,he was so silly that day. My trainer had to ride him for a while and he was such a brat. I’m back to riding him again and he’s getting better. He was still a bit green when this happened. Still laugh about it every now and then.

Woody Henderson Yes, I am. I did visit England, Wales, and Scotland on a bus tour back in 2006, but my memories are pretty fuzzy. I do remember some roads like this, lined with hedges almost as tall as the bus. I tipped our driver for all of his hard work! I had a fantastic time, and our tour guide and bus driver made it memorable (beyond the size of the roads!).

Drivers in Britain are so polite. It’s a rare driver in Australia that even slows down for a horse. I used to even experience drivers deliberately trying to scare our horses.

I think it really depends where in Britain you ride, I live in scotland and it's a very big mix you'll have one driver drive past wide and slow but the next will be right up your back side revving their engine.

Not sure what’s been said before but I really thought that was why people have their horses shod lol so they can ride on roads! I certainly in my riding days have trotted like that on roads to get home as soon as possible when the weather has turned nasty unexpectedly. I wouldn’t recommend cantering on hard surfaces like roads (unless you have lost control Haha) because it’s not good for the legs, the horses can slip a bit and it’s a nasty surface to land on if you dismount without permission 😱😜 I hope you’re ok as I noticed you said you can’t ride. Look after yourself and don’t take any nonsense from people who write negative comments. Xx

Yeah happened to me once. Got stuck in a huge thuderstorm. Trotting back is the best solution. Shoes or not. Most horses are pretty ok with thunderstorms really, hale and wind is what they don't like.

Happend to me also once on a trail ride with my friends when i was younger we had no idea the forecast was sunny about two hours away from the yard *in the middle of the forest* we started realizing the sky was getting pitch black but we thought it was nothing so we continued and about 14 minutes later it was thundering and pouring their horses were good *one spooked a bit but she caught control* i flipped out and my horse did to she bucked bolted and just threw a fir but after a bit my friends and i helped take control and we got back safely.
