Agreed. I’m currently student teaching and it’s been okay. I feel like I can be involved more than I am but my teacher and I for some reason just don’t connect as much. We are working better now I feel with virtual teaching than when it was in person. Atleast Im starting to see what kind of a teacher I want to be in general and whenever I have a student teacher of my own.

I felt the same way you did about my student teaching. I didn't feel like I learned very much and my co-op wasn't there to help me much and wasn't understanding. Instead of helping and constructive criticism, I felt like she was just chipping away at me. I learned the most when she wasn't there the entire last week of teaching where I ran the class by myself (a sub was there too). I'm glad other placements were better for you!

I think a lot of times that’s just how student teaching goes. We’re all so different and it’s hard when you have someone who’s been teaching for a while and things have changed.

I didn’t jive well with my first master teacher either (I was dealing with a random serious, non-contagious illness- she viewed all of the symptoms as personal failures on my part and not the disease). My next two were so much better! My first job reminded me of my first master teacher- we just didn’t jive well and they decided, for whatever strange, completely untrue, reasons that I was incompetent. I thankfully jumped ship to my current school and absolutely love it- I’m acknowledged as a good teacher and was even used as a model classroom a few weeks ago. It felt so good to acknowledge to myself that my first master teacher and my first job were wrong- I’m not an incompetent fool, I’m actually really quite good at teaching. I’m so glad to hear that someone else had a not-so-great experience because most of my friends at college would only talk about how great theirs was (I even had one friend whose master teacher was arrested for solicitation of minors a week or two after we finished, which is obviously terrible, but even her experience with him during student teaching was great). We’ve both turned out into good teachers!
