Problems with this scene: Sheldon is teaching topological insulators. Students appear to think this is a "relatively boring subject". But this subject is highly specialized and would only be taken by students who are actively involved in research related to it, and thus wouldn't consider it boring. Also, Sheldon wouldn't teach a course on topological insulators. It's a polar opposite field and expertise compared to his, and according to the rest of the show he doesn't respect this field at all. He would probably be teaching something in high energy physics. Accuracies in this scene: The CdTe/HgTe stack is indeed the concept of a 2007 paper about topological insulator phase of HgTe. The rest of the stuff on the table is solid state but not exactly relevant to topic though.

I've had profs like Sheldon. And while I was in the class I was saying KMN. But looking back on it, it was useful. Sort of the way a proctology exam is useful. One guy managed to shut down the entire department. Hotshot new prof and every grad student in the dept signed up. 40 of us. And he was giving us 60 hours a week of homework. He gave us an open-book take-home exam as a final. So for 3 months nothing but his homework got done.

Telling a group of students that they should have applauded him is just asking for the reaction he got, and he obviously wasn't a good teacher either. The episode where the university forced him to teach a class when he returned from his sabbatical and no one took it because he was so obnoxious proved how bad a teacher he was.

He didn’t know about the design flaw...and potentially the contractors at Despayre used shoddy materials and may have botched his design to cut corners. However, it didn’t matter much since the Emperor had Lemelisk put to death after the Death Star’s destruction. Repeatedly, too!

Luke Johnson I'd feel the same way, except Sheldon kept provoking others into bullying him. He kept rubbing in how smart he was and insulted other people's intelligence, and was too self-centered and obnoxious to consider that they might leave him alone if he stopped being an asshole.
