I'm a recovering screamer. When I was young I would scream, interrupt and talk over anyone with an opposing point of view. I agree with Professor Peterson that it is a narcissistic and anti-social behavior. In my own case, I believe it was that and more. I was ill informed, yet I wanted to believe. I wanted to fit in. So, I had my misguided, ill-informed point of view and it was very important to keep it. It was directly tied to my social standing, my circle of friends really everything that I was. It was terrifying to lose that. I came to the conclusion that I interrupted, talked over and screamed at people not to get them to think the way I did, but rather to insure that I maintained my beliefs. If I gave an opposing thought the ability to creep in, I could lose everything. The crowd I was in was the same way. They would not tolerate my thinking differently. Look at this last election and see what happens to those who venture out. I honestly believe that the children they get to do all this interrupting, talking over and screaming simply don't believe what it is they are interrupting, talking over and screaming about. Yet they are so afraid to lose their standing that they have to continue it. It wasn't until I literally shut my mouth and started to listen that my beliefs and demeanor actually changed. I no longer need to have everyone believe as I believe. My ideas have changed over the years. I've actually developed the ability to admit fault and change my mind, God forbid. I no longer interrupt, talk over or scream. I am secure in my beliefs.

@daerdevvyl431414 күн бұрын
They believe that they are right, therefore they have the right to speak since they are saying good and true things. But they reserve the right to restrict speech that they believe is wrong and harmful. "Sure I believe in free speech," they say, "but not free speech that hurts people's feelings." By which they mean their own feelings, or the feelings of people that they've allied themselves with at a social or political level, since they don't give a rodent's anus about the feelings of people they disagree with. What they don't understand (or more likely don't care about) is that the right to free speech was established to protect _unpopular_ speech. Popular speech doesn't need protecting, because it's _popular._ Also, they can't fathom that once you establish a precedent that speech can be restricted or compelled, that ability can be used against them. They don't consider that possibility because 1) they never consider the possibility they could lose political power. That is why it comes as such a shock to them each time it happens, and why they immediately assume that cheating has occurred. 2) Up till now, conservatives have consistently followed established rules, while leftists have not. We haven't attempted to use the same tactics against leftists that they use against us because we're frankly better people than they are. But people have limits to what they can endure before they begin to consider less palatable options. The left would be wise to not push us much further.

The most stark contrast is how the crowd does not respond in kind. They shout their “boos” at such outrageous behavior, yet they don’t act like raging animals as the protestors did. Just the calm demeanor of those present juxtaposes extremely well against the almost literally frothing rage of those interrupting the event, and it doesn’t take high intelligence to see which side appears far more reasonable and rational in their thinking. When you have to interrupt and shout over everyone else to make your point, you’re only handicapping yourself further. Rational people dislike irrational behavior.
@shoelacedonkey14 күн бұрын
I don't directly agree with the protestors and what, how & where they did what they did. But I must've missed the acting like "raging animals", all I saw was them holding up a sign and being loud, and in reply the crowd got loud as well. Either you have a very odd idea of what raging animals are or have no idea how demonstrations usualy go (they are often loud and have banners). In my book actions like theirs, wether you agree with them or not, are often what made change happen or at least more visible to the general public. Quiet protest and conversation/discussion only goes so far with certain topics.
