Your timing is always perfect. Just ran into a issue in our new can plant that I needed to figure out why are produce and consumes werent working. This was a great video and now required watching for the new guys and gals in the shop.

This is a great video but I'm looking to find the used bits in a plc. Do you have a video showing how to find the open hard wired bits available to use?
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
Right click, cross reference and look at the destructive column to have a Y in it. Also there when you're selecting them, they are dark gray if they have already been used and life gray if not

Quick question about this. As far as traffic over the network, do MSG or produced/consumed tags have a larger bandwidth?
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
I don't know. I would think it would have more to do with the consumed RPI compared to the sample rate of the MSG than the actual packet size.
@James-oj6lk Жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, is there an advantage to using produce/consume tags vs. msg instructions, to send info between plcs? Network wise?
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
Yes, produced/consumed tags are "deterministic" meaning you will know if it fails. MSG instructions are limited on number and don't take the priority of produced/consumed tags.

heh Tim, Thanks very much for this video on Producer/Consumer tags. I'm taking my first RSLogix PLC course this term at school, and for today's lab the Instructor was explaining on how we set up 2 RSLogix PLCs for Master and Slave communication. The lab involved in removing the processor for the Slave PLC and then adding all the I/O modules of the Slave PLC to the Master PLC. The goal was to be able to have the Master PLC operate the I/O assigned to the Slave PLC. I kinda got lost in this lab, so I was wondering do you have a video that describes how to set up this type of operation? Unfortunately our lab manual does not go through and explain the set up process very well. Thanks again for these videos, they have really helped me out. Justin

@@TimWilborne Heh Tim. I am using the RSLogix5000 (Studio 5000 Logix Designer) with the 1756-A10 chassis and the 1756-L81E ControlLogix Processor. I think this is what information you're looking for. Thanks again Justin
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
@@justinmartin4751 For just a remote chassis, you wouldn't use the Produced and Consumed tags. Just right click Ethernet under IO Configuration then New Module.

Both methods work great, I just prefer to use the msg instruction, not really sure why.

tags used by HMI, consumed or produced? how to search them in logix5000?
@TimWilborne Жыл бұрын
They would only show up as base tags in Studio 5000.

Yes, you can use the GSV instruction to see the IO light.
