In this episode we begin the wiring harness for the desk, screw in some punch blocks and panels, and (more importantly) fire up the R-60 for the first time. Places to See: KTQA-LP 95.3FM: ktqa.org Sam's Patreon: / sammulvey

Wow! I'd have so much fun tackling this with you, Sam. Figuring out how to put stuff together and make it work is fun and you sure seem to be fun to be around. Glad you figured out how to get clean sound out of it!

Nice work to getting that Sweet console going. I Love AudioArts. I have one of their older Consoles, a huge 40 Mic Input Channel SP5a. I do music recording. I have 44 outs and 40 ins into my PC with 2 RME 9652s. Lucid-Sony Converters. I also have a Symetrix 528. I love the Valley VCA Compressor in the older 528s. Great set up. Have fun -Cory

These boards liked to pop the opamp on the output card when hot swapping modules. From memory it typically was the headphone or control room outputs. I would keep a few 5532s on hand just because of this because powering down the board on many stations meant taking them off the air.

We've got parts galore, fortunately, and an upcoming video will feature the reattachment of a 5532.

Hey, I just got one of these boards and I don’t have any punch blocks or a logic board. I don’t plan on using it in the context of a radio/tv station so all the extra functionality of muting, unmuting, tally lights etc. isn’t needed. I’m wondering if you would know if it’s possible to just wire up the channels and have the single go straight in and out through xlrs like a more typical audio board, or if it can only function properly with punch blocks and all the extra “logic” stuff (I put logic in quotes because honestly I have no idea what that refers to specifically). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Great video by the way, it’s great to see someone else trying to keep these great boards in working order, and I’m glad to see you’re having success with it too. It gives me hope that I’ll be able to get some real use out of this board, besides just having it look pretty in my studio.

The punch blocks are mainly for "convenience." You could easily go from the weird molexoid connectors in the back directly to an XLR if you like. I found the connectors on online parts sellers, but I don't have my notes with me at the moment. Assuming you have the backplane and the required modules, there's no external bits that are important to mixing.
