Nice to see my old Code getting switch repaired...I recently traded it with GAK. I can help clarify the miscellaneous filter. It's a Juno/Jupiter filter, recent addition. Sounds gorgeous. But then so does the synth I traded it for. Hope the next owner enjoys very much! @markusfuller

Great video, Markus! Your enthusiasm for synths/electronics always makes your videos enjoyable and interesting - even for a switch replacement! I'm fortunate to own a CODE as well (a 6-voice version that includes the ARP2600 and CS80 filters). Due to their 'PC like' layout, they are great synths to investigate - a pity you didn't get a chance to tear this one down as you would've enjoyed all that analog circuitry that lies inside! They do make an amazing sound - such a rich and powerful synth which has a real presence (as they should for the money they cost!!) Thanx again!

Great video Markus! Just a quick question. I don't know if you had a chance to really dig more into this unit regarding repair, but I'm hoping you may have some thoughts. I have this synth with the CS80 filters as well, and sometimes I have a problem with the voices going out of tune, with one (#6 card) being a half step sharp. I usually can get it back on tune somewhat by using the accutune button, but sometimes it's just a little finicky. Do you think there is a way to "tune" a voice card, either with a potentiometer inside, or some other way? Or what about repositioning the cards in different order? Or any suggestions you might have would be very much appreciated thanks!

Hi..love the videos and insights...i have a repair to attempt!! I have a Yamaha cs2x synth that after a fall from being stood against a wall...now switches on and all menus seem to work..but I am unable to get any sound output from the device!could you point me to one of your videos that would show me where the problem would be if it's repairable? Big thanks 😎

You should push the loose screws into a piece of cardboard so you don't lose them. You can also write notes and diagrams on the cardboard.

I have sometimes managed to get those type of switches to work by taking it apart cleaning it up and reassembling. Other times they're impossible to figure out what bit of metal goes where. Might be useful if you have a weird sized switch or are stingy like me. Opening up a $8000 synth would freak me out!!

Fun fact when the topic is up: My RME adda converter has its switch on downwards but my SPL EQ has its power switched on upwards. Two german brands who can't decide how to do things : ) Personally I prefer the upward switching. Feel more logical.

It's more logical to depress for on
@cornerliston
@cornerliston 4 жыл бұрын
@@annother3350 Well, I suppose the “logic” is not logic to everyone? : ) For me, and many other manufacturers it seems as logic in this case is to have the on upwards. For some it's the opposite. But my point here was the comparison between two German brands doing this differently, being a fun fact.

SE-02 is actually a fully discrete analog synth with digital control as far as I know. The kind of synth people have been begging Roland for decades to make but won't except in this instance where the farmed it out to Studio Electronics. It's the best synth Roland currently makes IMHO even though it's more Moog than Roland. It's definitely none of that plug-out nonsense.

The CODE 8 is based on the Omega 8 with a few slight differences, but the original design goes back to 1999 or thereabouts. It's so boutique that Studio Electronics probably saw no need to change it. I do wonder how compact they could make it these days. 4U isn't bad in the rack, but it's 15" deep and pretty heavy.

@@pupation We have our own lead prep, assembly and wave solder machines, so we can control all aspects of building these. Plus, thru-hole is far easier to repair. Having said that, we are working on a new synth that will be SMD. We will continue to make the Omega, SE-1X, SE-3x, and a few others, by hand and thru hole.
