Wouldn't it be fun to be a fly on the wall in the office of an art restorer or museum 200 years from now when they xray this painting?! They will say, "and THIS is how we know it is an authentic Hester." 😁 I find it so interesting that you don't enjoy the "old " shadow and light style, because you are still so good at it! But as with anything, finding fun and joy in your work is really key to success! I so enjoy watching your process, and really enjoying the end results too. Nice job!

I love your videos. Bananas in that state are perfect for future smoothies. We cut them into 1" slices and freeze them in a ziplock bag (laid flat for easy portions in the future) and then we use them in our smoothies instead of ice. They are delicious and we feel good not wasting them. If you are a smoothie drinker, try this. =)

I so appreciate you sharing that you don’t want to paint that way any more because you just don’t enjoy it anymore. I had a teacher, Skip Lawrence, who asked us How did it feel in your body to paint this? He was trying to get us to be whole persons when we paint amd not to paint what we perceive will sell or that others would like. He could tell when someone didn’t enjoy making their painting, by how the brushstrokes were, or the color choices, or something. I have gotten so that it is hard to return to previous phases of paintings. I love drawing …in all kinds of ways…but strict reclaim is just out! Can’t do it anymore. Thanks for validating that!💖

Hi Sandi,Really enjoyed this one and the end result was really great, worth pursuing.I felt your frustration with the shadows,as good as it was I could see you gently slipping back to your old style,I think when we adopt new ways of producing work there can be no going back,it’s a constant struggle for me to get out of the old neat mode.I did a pencil sketch of Mary Fedden yesterday and felt myself slipping back into the old ways, but hey,it’s there in my sketchbook and is another lesson in moving on.x

I love watching you paint over stuff and start again, even when it already looked good, it inspires me to be brave in my own work. If you ever find fake fruit in nice shapes but ugly colours, have you considered painting them before painting a picture of them? I think Morandi used to paint the outsides of bottles and vases before making pictures of them. Flashe paint would probably work and I feel like you would get some interesting results.
