You started with a beat up scratched and just dirty bass that hasn’t see any love. But now my friend the bass is sporting a new paint job and deep cleaning new strings and it a beautiful guitar”bass” that anyone would be proud of playing! It sounds wonderful too. Thanks for sharing with us Peace Out 🤟🎸❤️ 36:50

At first, I couldn't believe that you were polishing the screws - then I saw the results, and recognized that was going to make the bass easier to use and repair, so it was worth the effort! It's a great-looking instrument, and I haven't even gotten to the repaint portion of the program.

I think its a little suspicious that there aren't any cracks in the body from moisture freezing and expanding the wood. Also the paint isn't worn and the wood edges are crisp and sharp. I'd love to know where you found this bass cause as of right now, it looks like you just smeared a bunch of shit all over it and left it to sit for a couple days.

@chriswareham
@chriswareham Жыл бұрын
It's very humid in Japan, and that causes the "patina" that you see on the metal parts as well as helping dirt to stick to the instrument if it is stored carelessly for a long time. I've bought several old Greco bass guitars from Japan, and despite looking like they had been well cared for they still had some of the same signs of humidity on things like the bridge and tuners.
@diegoibarra3954
@diegoibarra3954 Жыл бұрын
So there are a number of reasons on why this is almost certainly fake: 1) What on earth is that brown thing tha have only the neck and the headstock and doesn't have the body? Spray tan? 2) Have you ever seen "rusty" screws coming out that easily? 3) The scratching pattern in the back. Everyone who has played an instrument knows how it scratches with the use and never is only at the bottom like that. My best guess: he purchased a functioning 2nd hand bass, tie it to the back of a car and drove it out to scratch it, after that he let it outside for a couple of weeks and that's it, fake tan, much dirt and a little rust and he have the perfect bass to """restore""".

Further more, if the steel slugs in the pickups were that bad that you had to wire brush them, then I'm assuming you replaced the corroded copper wire coils off camera as they would have been well damaged and corroded beyond repair and would have sounded the same as the beginning. Unless you somehow restored the thousands of feet of copper wire thinner than human hair then re wound it properly. No, I don't think so.

For the body (It appears to be alder, maybe) prior to applying the stain, give it 1 or 2 coats of Super Blonde Shellac (or sanding sealer-same thing).
