I love his pacing and editing. Scorsese isn't afraid to let things unfold slowly. His cuts feel intentional and the fast cuts definitely make you feel the kinetic energy of the scene.

Movement, it is what defines his whole career the movement of the camera is deliberate and very explicit which is why when it is absent (whether almost completely in The King of Comedy or slightly in conversation shots e.t.c.) you know it is for a very good reason. One film that I have fell in love with is Silence (2016) the frames are full and vibrant and they evoke a lot of Akira Kurosawa with the layers of movement and natural events (the smoke in the Hells and the waves on the seaside, flames in the tent e.t.c.) and then when it is static (fumie) you are drawn to attention to the moment. Silence is also strange since the soundtrack is almost non-existent in the film but is actually very beautiful (it is full of Cicadas). Silence (lack of sound) is also effectively used as a technique in his films and they make them exponentially better.

John Nowak Kind Sir the movie was good, I loved the dialogue; the acting too. All of it was pretty phenomenal- it’s a Netflix movie; not a theatrical one. So I assume the budget wasn’t on par with the likes of Casino, Goodfellas, or Wolf Of WallStreet.. now Yea the shop owner part was hilariously stiff & out of place. The movie was very good otherwise. You can tell he took many shortcuts too, probably due to budget restraints.. maybe I’m a somewhat of a fanatic of Scorsese films, so I could be considered biased.

On Scorsese's use of music: During the introduction to Tony Pro scenes in The Irishman, Scorsese has two songs playing, the crooner type ode to Tony and layered on top of that is the kinetic Cuban salsa track. He's probably used that before, but for that scene sequence it's so effective and just so brilliant.

I watched Hugo a few days ago and I loved it as much as Scorsese loved Melies' work. It has a unique style to it, there's some goofy humor but it feels natural, the ambience is magnetic, the special and practical effects blend together perfectly, the actors did a great, great job on almost everything... It's such a beautiful movie

I saw Irishman recently this was my second ever Martin Scorsese movie experience, the first movie of his I ever saw was Shutters Island I was expecting a slow pace and high shock value but it was just too boring slow and had very little shock value,if I ever rewatch it I am going to skip over the uninteresting parts.After watching Irishman I decided to watch Taxi driver and thought it was better ,because it was similar to 2019 Joker

I noticed that Scorsese uses the color red a lot in several scenes both in lighting and objects, the color red symbolizes violence, blood, deaths. Vince Gilligan also did this a lot in the Breaking Bad series when some scenes resulted in violence there were always red colors throughout the scene. The scene takes on a heavier and more menacing tone, that's just brilliant!

He says as they just showed the Goodfellas diner scene (19:29) between Henry and Jimmy in which Martin and Schoonmaker used what I consider to be the most quintessential Scorsese technique; the one in which the camera seems to be zooming IN on the background while simultaneously giving the appearance of zooming OUT in the foreground. He's utilized this _so_ many times (DeNiro staring into the ice bucket in Raging Bull comes directly to mind), can't believe they didn't talk about it.
