I've been studying games, writing, art, design, etc and something that keeps coming up from the best artists, developers, writers is the idea of 'reiteration' repeating with slight adjustments until the idea matches exactly what the story needs. So I feel like the number of takes is just iteration in another form and it feels bad because the props are human beings, not 3D models, lines, etc etc. I don't think Fincher's number of takes is perfectionism, its just how art works. It makes it easier to make high quality work.
