Kageyama not being present in the whole ushiwaka pressing down on karasuno sequence is a testament to his temperament. He stands by his words that the only thing that scares him is oikawa. You can see he was comparitively unfazed by ushijama throughout the match highlighting his beliefs in his team and above all himself. The only time he showed weakness was when he was burned out which isn't surprising given it was his 1st 5 set game most probably. All this proves that he is a National youth team material and his call up to the camp shouldn't be a surprise despite him being just a 1st year.

@@TopGunZero Personally, I see it the same as calling Tendou a Guess Monster, since apparently the word "guess" also has a different connotation than in english, but they still used it because it was more like a name than anything, that's how I imagine. I know most don't have a problem with calling Tendo that, unlike with Ushijima's case, because they think it fits, but the true meaning says that he isn't actually guessing as we interpret the word but something else. Right now I can't remember the definition but I'm sure I saw it in Sarah Pava's comment section of 3x2 because there was a whole debate in which Adam and her didn't think saying Tendou is guessing is an accurate way of discribing his play style and there were a few comments explaining the actual meaning of the word in japanese Of course you can still say it's a miss translation, there have been too many awful translations this season so it wouldn't be a surprise

Ask Ange from Carlie & Ange about the jerseys, he bought good ones, even wears them for other anime reactions 3:57 I was about to point out how we don't give Narita enough praise for not only holding himself quite well but even making necessary points in a stressful situation right out of the bench, and then you go and call him an NPC😭😅 4:05 Ushijima apologizing is soooo underappreciated, it shows he is a really decent guy, who is just viewed negativly becuase he is stronger than the mc, but he got there through hard work (and a little of luck😜) 4:27 this exchange is very highly praised by pro players who watched it because they say that he is taking the responsability and trust of his team and is saying he will work hard to deserve it 5:50 yes, but it greatly helped that Tsukki delayed the blockers, on his own, it's just as much his point as it is Tanaka's 6:56 I can't believe patreon didn't warn you about Ukai's va last words!!! I'm more than sure that you know by now, but it's a pity you didn't find out sooner 7:02 this is also very praised by professionals, shows Ushijima is a true player who isn't greedy for the spotlight, just wants his team to win and if he can help then he will do the most to, but won't get offended if it goes to someone else 8:55 A better translation would have been "an idiot for volleyball" meaning that's their life, their everything, obsession, like Kageyama who appears smart but is only true to volleyball related things 13:14 Kuroo's whole speech is about how kill blocking may look cooler but read blocking, though it's slower and you mostly get one touches, is when you get the last laugh, because it's the most effective in the long run, so I feel that making Tsukki block him twice would, not only undermind his previous block, but completly disregard and contradict the speech Kuroo just said 15:25 Okok, the flashbacks really got to me, it felt very animely, very nice touch 17:02 this phrase always breaks me, the one place Tendo felt safe to be freely himself and he won't get to anymore 18:03 when they switch main characters for a season 19:08 He is literally part of Japan's u19 team, they won't kick him out just for one loss 20:15 as probably pointed out by many, the fact that Ushijima is a third year and is already part of the national team means that the only way for them to officially verse each other is if they go pro, so Ushijima making a statement like that means that he has no doubt that they will make it, it's the highest praise 24:37 It's a camp made by the NATIONAL team, lest be honest, noone else is national level on their own (as in, for the national team) 25:56 I loooove how you are recapping the most awsome moments, even with the movements and all, I'm sooo happy you are really enjoying it 27:40 with how much you reacted to the news of being completed and how you seem to like it, I highly recommend reading the manga, the fact that they are rushing and finishing with movies is already hurting the amazing story telling done by the author, believe me I found the ending to be perfect, I feel anything differently wouldn't have been as impactful 32:12 Sadly Asahi gets overshadowed in the anime (especially later) he is actually always the top scorer 33:58 hahha and there are still waaaay more awesome characters to come 34:35 the whole Tendo is the "antagonist" makes me stand by my assumption that you didn't understand his backstory, character and really wholesome relationship, not only with his team (Ushijima especially) but with the sport of volleyball in general 35:12 they've been winning for the three years straight, so if it's two a year, that'd be five times that they have won (since they just lost) 35:59 It's amazing you say that giving that Haikyuu is praised precisely because each character is sooo fleshed out. Again, you may have over looked Ushijima's backstory, maybe because it was brief, but that's the story's streangth, in a few scenes we get to learn soooo much about Ushijima and how he views the world, especially when he remembers his fathers words saying he'll meet intresting people, odd players, strong opponents, and each time he recalls that it pans to a player on the court, that's says a loooot about him without needing to stop the match for a whole episde so that it's shoved by an uncharacteristic emotional Ushijima. Sure, everything relates to volleyball, but you have to see it in a deeper level, not just at face value, like with Kageyama's traetment towards his previous team, it was all about volleyball and him being so skilled but it also said a lot about him as a person. The same with the rest, as I've been pointing out above, Ushijima is shown in little scenes who he is, a very respectful, blunt, honest and driven guy, and it's mostly shown, not told, but it is there. Same with all the other characters, like the small moments of Kuroo's friendship with Kenma, not only shows their bond but their personalities, and how Kuroo is smarter than he looks, and almost as stratigic as Kenma. Or the fact that he teaches his opponents, that relates to volleyball showing how skilled he is but it also shows his personality. He does it not even because he wants a good match but because he wants his coach to be able to expirience the match he dreamt of before retirig, and is even bashful when explaining that, showing he cares a looooot about others but isn't always confident and outgoing. And that's analysing only one of his scenes . One of my favourite moment of his is very small, often overlooked but so telling of his character. It's when he goes to Daichi to APOLOGISE for seemingly ofending Tsukki (again it's a scene about volleyball and another character but it's still relevant to Kuroo's characteristics) I can't begin to explain how much it tells of his character. Fast point: it shows that he likes to push people's buttons (normally to get them to play volleyball) but if he goes too far he will take responsability, personally I don't even feel he said ssomething that offensive, but he saw it hurt Tsukki and he took action. He had the insight to know he would get nowhere talking to him so he goes to his team captain to tell him the situation so that he is aware one of his teammates is having a hard time, it shows precesely why he is captain. And I'm only talking about Kuroo because this episode had him feautered quite a bit so suddenly he came to mind, but I could have chosen anyone. I could go on and on about any character, in fact there are many amazingly profound videos analysing them individually or some about a spesific team dynamic since they are so different and insightful but I won't recomend them because they have slight or huge manga parts that drive the point foward. But I will say that every single character is incredibly fleshed out And about Ushijima's lack of emotions, there are many (a lot nurodivergent) that relate to him precisly because of his way of reacting to situations, that's haikyuu's power, it's so diverse in personalities that there is a character for everyone, somone can relate to them Ushijima isn't near my top favourites but I still can see how strong of a character he is (pun intended) 36:38 Maybe the problem is because you are watching instead of reading (although there are many anime onlys who love the "side" characters), especially at such a fast pace. Don't get me wrong, for me, I loooove having you guys react so quickly but it may be the reason why you are not connecting with many fan favourites. Me for example, I can't rank the characters, I love them too much, they are all soooo deep and different, but if you put a gun to my head, even if I can't put them in order, all the first that come to mind aren't in Karasuno, by a looot, and I love the guys, or if they are, and it's a very big if, they are characterss like Suga or Yamaguchi. Because I see past how many points they score, it's their characters that make them my favourites, and if you look at their actions and way of looking at the world outside of how that impacts their game then you see they are incredibly written

I think problem of comparing seasons to each other lies with how show is structured overall. It establishes a lot of things through it's runtime and eventually resolve them over the course of seasons, making it rather difficult to quantify quality of a season, based on how many things get resolved at each point. For example Tsuki getting block wouldn't have had such impact if they didn't establish Tsuki relationships with volleyball since season 1 and his development in season 2. While season 3 give you a nice conclusion with a bowtie, it was the process that made it worth it all.

I’m not sure if we share a same way of using the word “idiot”, but here in Asia it can also be used to describe people who are really into and passionate with sth, kind of like they have nothing other else but just loving it, which is not a negative meaning so it does make sense for me!

And we still have the Spring Tournament! Keep those seatbelts buckled boys 💥
I like you guys giving the 3rd years some love after slandering them early on LOL. Daichi is GOAT. Asahi is the ace and Sugawara would start for most teams. I think we can put to bed the idea that they were holding the 1st and 2nd years back.

The voice actor for the coach passed away after they finished episode 8 of Season 3, which is why it make it to be an emotional moment when he says "Don't look down! Volleyball is a sport where you are always looking up." New VA takes over on episode 9 is why he sounds different.

and… it’s all about volleyball 😂😂 anime is just THAT good. The story writing, story telling… everything!

One of the many things I love about Haikyuu - in the last rally, every member of both teams touched the ball at least once. Truly it was a matter of teamwork and who came on top.

The reactors' flashback were genius move. If you guys still confuses about how tournaments work There are 2 national tournaments in 1 year, the "Inter high" in season 1 and "Spring tournament" in season 2+. In season 1 Shiratorisawa already went to national, the inter high tournament, and it was already end off-screen when season 2 start.

Hi Carter, fyi, the line under the jersey number signifies that the person wearing it is the team captain. That's how we know, without being told, that Ushijima for example is the captain.

This anime is my favorite, even after years of finishing the manga, today I read some chapters. This season has so many moments, every time I hear "it's just this, it's just that" I remember Tsuki, how I didn't want to spend time on something that could hurt you like his brother, the disappointment of losing, overcome that and live it with passion. Nishi in three tries to adapt, Ukai's shout to his team about keeping their heads up, that the battle continues, many more moments. To finish with the hug of the 3 seniors, the unprocessed first years who won receiving the hug of the entire team, like that of Tanaka and Nishinoya. It is incredible that after seeing it many times and over time it continues to excite you, even when you transfer it to your daily life. There's a lot left to see, I'm glad you guys got hooked on anime like Tsuki hahaha.. Sorry if this is poorly translated, I am Argentine, a big hug and keep it up!!

There are two nationals in a single year. Shiratorizawa already went and lost in nationals. This is the second time to go to nationals and theycdidnt get qualified, karusino did

To give some insight on the Tournament, National Spring Tournament starts 1 Week from this match, so they only have like 5-6 days to practice if you wanna have restdays and account for travel day to Tokyo (since Miyagi Prefecture has like a 5-6 hour drive to Tokyo). Make sure to watch the 2 OVA Episodes Land vs. Air before you start with Season 4. It's not filler, since it tells you the Story of Fukurodanis and Nekomas Qualification Tournament (Karasuno vs. Shiratorizawa was Miyagi Prefecture Regional Finals basically). The Editor KILLED IT this time with the flashbacks from all the Geks from Season 1 to this absolute payoff moment, feels like you guys had your own little character arc where each of you became attached to at least one guy in Haikyuu! Also get my boy Carter that Daichi Jersey ASAP.

21:27 TLDR; there's a Spring and Summer tournament. Aka, 2 National, high school volleyball tournaments a year. Season 1 was the qualifiers to represent Miyagi for Summer, while S2 and S3 were for qualifying for Spring. Until now, Shiratorizawa has consistently won both and represented Miyagi at the Spring and Summer Nationals. I've steered clear away from spoilers in the following explanation: There's basically 2 main tournaments in a year from what I understand. These are the Summer Interhigh and Spring Tournament (s4 and onwards). BOTH of these are national tournaments, and each prefecture holds preliminary/qualifying tournaments to decide who represents them on a national level. The preliminaries for Summer Interhigh was S1, and they lost in round 3 out of 6 to Seijoh/Aoba Johsai. Seasons 2 and 3 were the Spring Tournament preliminaries, and as you saw, because they beat Shiratorizawa, Karasuno get to represent Miyagi at the national Spring Tournament. This is why Shiratorizawa was so heavily favoured and revered. They basically dominated both tournaments for years on end, basically becoming synonymous with representing the Miyagi prefecture. It's a major upset, but also a exciting twist. Especially the additional layer of Shiratorizawa being a highly established private school, with boarding and high ranking in sports and academia - versus Karasuno, a public school with a lesser known reputation. There are also key differences though. The Spring Tournament is specifically for volleyball, while the Summer Interhigh is like a seasonal thing for ALL high school sports - meaning there's other sports with their own tournaments going on too. Hinata's classmate mentions their team (from another unnamed sport) losing their qualifiers too. Additionally, the Summer Interhigh, being earlier in the year, is also the one most third years have as their final game; as the preliminaries - let alone the ACTUAL nationals - for the Spring tournament are nearing final exam season which is a BIG deal in Asia. The Summer Interhigh also has the venue change each year, while the Spring Tournament is always in Tokyo. There's also differences in how many teams get to represent each prefecture based on population size, as well as the host getting to have an extra team/slot. This is why both Nekoma and Fukorodani get to go; Tokyo gets to have 2, +1 additional as the host of the Spring Tournament. Going a bit deeper outside of just the show's bounds, the Interhigh and Nationals are also a BIG deal for young athletes looking to secure their future. Outside of the consistent performance of a team, these tournaments are basically where coaches scout out promising athletes. Qualifying to represent the prefecture puts a team and its athletes on the radar. It's how Kageyama got an offer to the National training camp and how Ushijima landed a spot on the under 19's OLYMPIC team. For people like Hinata, Kageyama, Ushijima and Oikawa, who's futures involve volleyball, it's a stage you don't wanna miss otherwise the road to your career is gonna be less straightforward. Hence why Ushijima, from a purely statistical standpoint, didn't understand why Oikawa wouldn't take the offer from Shiratorizawa; and why Kageyama had even tried to take the entrance exam for Shiratorizawa. It's got a reputation as a ticket to the Interhigh and Nationals, a ticket to becoming an officially nationally ranked high school athlete and OLYMPIAN. It also highlights Hinata's naivety, as he new nothing of these school's reputations. He simply saw an opportunity to go to Karasuno where his idol once went and took it.

Always amazing seeing this season again! W reacts and love the edit of the flashback before the guys started haikyuu🤣. For me the buildup and highlights of season 4 is even more amazing, without a doubt my favorite season so keep up the hype. Just to know, the art style is more messy and might take some time to get used to, but it makes for smoother and better animation when it is needed. Can't wait for your guys reaction to season 4!!!!!!!!!! Tsuki without a doubt the mvp

Think the point made on ushiwaka is true, he doesn't much care about losing a prefecture finals because the weight of it doesn't matter as much anymore. He's representing japan in the u19 and has played on the international stage so to him the prefecture finals is akin to a friendly when compared to world stage of competition. He obviously cares but not that much cause it doesn't much matter, he's going pro regardless
