A closer look at the Mix Selection Panel for the Presonus StudioLive 24R rack mount mixer in Presonus' Universal Control software. This video is intended for beginners to the process of sound engineering, and the pace is intentionally slow, thorough and repetitive to ensure that those who are new to this don't get lost. If you're looking for the latest tip or trick, this video probably isn't for you. Software shown is available for free download at www.presonus.com. Hardware is available through your local music store or Pro vendor. No promotional consideration has been proffered or requested in relation to this video.

I'm so happy I finally found a video on this rack interface and understanding the flow of everything on the digital software. It's definitely been overwhelming for me as I've been using this to record with my DAW in Cubase as an interface. I've come a long way trying to understand which usb channels go to what for physical outputs was a real challenge and setting up a headphone amp with this was tricky too through my daw. I've been trying to use my one outboard compressor the Disstresor with this interface into my daw. I basically have my DAW set to my digital return in the uc surface and I'm trying to use an external effect in my daw but I'm having trouble recording the effect of the compressor. Is there a good way of setting up a compressor in this uc surface mixer interface maybe you could do a video about outboard gear and routing or setting up the fader channels or something to use outboard effects or headphone amps Any guidance would be very appreciated Thank you

I don't have much use for outboard gear, so I don't know too much about it. I'm not the right person to make that video. But, essentially, you'd want to send to your gear via an Aux out, and then return it to a channel.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. What is Ike to know is that when I’m playing keys at church, the sound comes out the main speakers but I don’t get sound from the monitors which are in front of me facing me. Guitar and singing comes out of all the speakers just not the keys. How can I achieve this. Thank you I advance

You want to find the 'mix' that is feeding your monitor speaker and adjust the faders for that mix to include Keys as well as Vocals and Guitar. This can be done through Universal Control software or a special app that gives you control through your phone.

I might be dumb but im the only one who uses a stereo mix but for some reason my 2 aux channels are linked. Both export from 2 TS to XLR to my headphone amp. My headphone amp has a switchable mono and stereo button. In stereo my kick drum is heard on my left and I have really no panning options. When I am in my mix master and mix bus I see at the button level only stuff going to one aux channel. Is there something I am missing?

Sorry, I'd need to see the setup to try to help, and I'm not sure how helpful I'd be with something that specific.

If Im at home and want to mix live or not, via Studio one, I do not see the reason to use Universal Control other than choosing my inputs and outputs... S1 does infinitely more. I would want this 24R only to have 24 xlr inputs/ outputs as a interface between mics and Studio one. Is this the best option? Thank you

You don't need Universal Control. The mixer can be controls right from Studio One. The 24R does have 24 XLR inputs, but the outputs are 1/4" and there's only 12 of them. You can get add-on hardware to add additional channels of in and out, but the maximum number of active physical inputs on any of the three boards, the 16R, 24R or 32R is 32 inputs and I think the maximum number of active physical outputs is 20. If you have more inputs or outputs than that you can apportion them to the channels you prefer, but you can't exceed that number, because the internal unit as limits as to what it can process.

Greetings Pastor Andrew, thank you very much for the video. Does the configuration of Pre1, Pre2 and Post also apply if I use the channels in USB mode?

Not sure. I've not done much with USB returns as of yet.

Which outputs are assigned to the Main out XLRs? do you use those outputs for studio monitors?

I only use my 24R for live sound production at the moment, and I don't actually use the main outs. In my church, there's an old 8-channel sound board that the old boys are comfortable using, so I use 8 of the Aux sends to prep and mix signals for the old sound board. So, I take all the vocalists, balance them with one another and send a single channel back to the old sound board, and by combining inputs up front, it gives me the opportunity to apply digital effects and combine signal so that the only thing the folks at the back need to worry about is riding 8 faders.

How do I name channels with custom names? Do I need a laptop or can I use my ipad
@AndrewBellous
@AndrewBellous Жыл бұрын
You can change the channel name with Universal Control. This is available for Mac, PC, and you should be able to get it for an iPad as well. Select the channel, click on the name in the top left corner, and you should be able to edit. I don't have an iPad, so I'm not sure if the app is slightly different, but it should be possible.

@@AndrewBellous ok thanks sir! ow what about remixing and sort of mastering recorded sessions from the SD card since I have the rack version and not the console...do I need a program on the laptop or what?
@AndrewBellous
@AndrewBellous Жыл бұрын
@@musikman337 The ideal is to connect your computer to the unit by USB, and then you can download the 'Capture 3' program for free from Presonus and do multi-track recording. Then you can edit in Presonus StudioOne later on and have control over each individual channel, adjusting EQ and level for each one, deleting those you don't need.
