I use the FET compressor alot , reminds me of the older 70's compressors with various compression times and input /output controls. This is working with presonus 24R

I'm in the process of getting Persons Series 3 16 channel mixer soon. How do you set up a drum subgroup and add a 1176 to it ?

From Universal Control click on the channel and press the "A" button to assign to Sub A. Also press the main button so it isn't on. Press on Sub A at the bottom of the mixes list and press on the main fader for that Subgroup. There you can edit the subgroup's EQ and Compression settings

Hey man, great videos! Looking at swapping out my UAD Apollo 8 interface and getting the SL 32s. Are the preamps/interface of the mixer good? I’d still keep UA & Waves plug ins and my other outboard preamps/compressors as well. Would want it mainly for interface and daw Control for my studio. Probably use the built in preamps for any live recordings etc. Would be great to know the quality. If it can make pro quality recording. Thanks

First of all: Great videos and plenty of information - really like that! Since month I'm pretty unhappy, cause I can't decide how to set up my home studio finally. Sounds weird but I'm not sure what is the best way a) to continue with my iMac, Appogee Elements, Softube Console One or b) to switch over to a digital mixer like the Presonus Series III or an Allen and Heath QU16. The point is, I'm not happy with the workflow: Sometimes in only want to record something quick and dirty, catch an idea, sometimes I want to really record an entire song. The Post-Editing on the Computer takes so much time and when I want to record something it takes time to set up the system (even the Mac is really fast) - I want hear effects that I'm using during recording session - and I don't really want to edit them for hours later on my computer. I wanna plug my guitar in, a mic or two and add some effects and then start playing and singing and/or record that at the same time. Could the Studio Live 16 III be such a tool for me or should I stick to the method of audio interface, daw, plug-ins, etc. for home recording? I'd appreciate your comments! @Joe: keep on going - really appreciate your work here!

You'll need a computer and software regardless of what you do. But a mixer DOES allow you to have some effects right away without needing software, so I could see why you'd be drawn to that.

Joe thank you for your quick response! Appreciate that! I know I need my Mac and my DAW anyway :) The point is, that in case I have an idea, or I want to practice a new song or even just to jam with some friend the present workflow with Computer, Interface, Plug-Ins, etc. is pretty "slow and boring" - I just wanna press 2-3 buttons, and start playing and singing with some good effects, reverbs and hear what I (we) are playing. If it's good to press another button and simply record it and then if I still think it's ok to import it into my DAW and finish it there. So my question is more if the Series III can make me feel more musician again then technician - if u know what I mean. Anyway many thanks again and keep on going, you do a really great job !

"that's not pleasant, right?" speak for yourself. i for one love the sound of really crushed, really hard-limited drums. i wish that there was an affordable box for running VSTs outside a computer so i could use Xfer OTT for live sound

If you have an interface, you can run cantabile to run vst's live. Takes a little routing, but not bad.

You used 18ms release for the standard compressor at the end which is even quicker than the fastest setting of 76, so the comparison doesn’t make any sense

Where is the FET compressor ? I cannot find it in the list of Presonus plugins for sale. Has it been replaced by the VTI and the RC-500? Or maybe Im missing something. Is it possible to use any of the plugins for the Studio One software for / into the StudioLive 32 Series III mixer?

Driver? I have the latest versions of UC Surface, Studio One and Mixer firmware. Do I have to be running Studio One, to get those Plugins into UC Surface? Can they be moved / imported directly to the Mixer for use on the fat channel of the board with out UC Surface?

You've obviously never used an 1176 before, the release time for the sound you were after is in the last fifth of it's range. Try speeding up the release time to 50ms.

I can see this is 2 year old video. There are many more compressors and equalizers you can download from presonus. Some of them are free. Have fun and make video using these.

Unless you buy the $500 version of Studio One 5, this Fat Channel Collection of VST3 plugins cost $150.... honestly they are not that impressive, some of the settings are confusing and in some regard non-standard, and for $150 you can purchase much better 3rd party plugins. Waves comes to mind for example. Like everything else PreSonus I've tried, it's sub-par.
