It's interesting you bring up OSA - (sleep apnea). I'm a registered respiratory therapist working in the field of sleep disturbances, OSA and anesthesia (entropy/EEG)....working along numerous different medicine disciplines (MDs/PhDs day in and day out; I cannot believe after being in my field for over 16 years and almost to my doctorate, I never objectively pieced these concepts together. It goes to show you, listen intently to someone with a different perspective. You may just learn something. Much

@@DanneoYT does it really sound reasonable to expect an 8th grader to think about how to study effectively when they dont feel the need to study smarter since they have their parents reminding them all the time? The only real time students consider this is when they are in college and dont have anyone breathing down their back to get their work done its not feasible to expect someone at a young age to just suddenly think of responsible things like this to do
@DanneoYT
@DanneoYT 5 жыл бұрын
Young people arnt that naive, 8th graders are probably thinking about getting a job soon or something like that, most if not all are thinking about their future, its up to them whether they're gonna flunk school or not. According to your logic, what happens if school does teach you how to study smarter? Will 8th graders even care or pay attention? Some will, but studying effectively requires discipline, effort and handwork which isnt easy due to the countless distraction present nowadays. I believe the biggest lessons are learnt from our mistakes and school cant make our mistakes for us, your study habits may be ineffective at first, but its the own individuals responsibility to recognise that, its something he has to refine for himself as studying is different for everyone. Studying effectively is a process, it may be ineffective in 8th grade, but you learn to see what works and what doesnt, so by the time you are in 12th grade your study habits are unique to you, and if you havent gotten an idea on how to study by college its your own god damn fault, stop blaming it on education. Only thing i learnt in school is how to study by myself lol

This helped a lot , went from getting Ds to my accounting exams to getting As. For the people asking. All I did was study early on alternative days for courses. I use to study a bunch a few days before the exams but instead I just studied an hour or so right after class. Then I would just do some extra practice on the weekends. It definitely doesn’t work the same for everyone with some of my friends more comfortable studying a week or so before an exam. I guess I just retained information and concepts more after I spread out the studying on a long term basis.

Make the most out of today. Time is precious. Stop wasting it. Go work out, go study, be with people who lift you up, who inspire you. If not, watch these kind of videos to motivate you to build the greater version of YOU. Life is too short to waste it on negative people and/or negative energy. You can do anything you put your mind to. Self belief is key. MAJOR KEY. Believe it and you sure will acheive. Wish you a wonderful and a productive day

This is so true. I have many friends who study for 5-6 hours straight right after school. Yet, they still don't score as well as they wanted to and they are actually more stressed as well. Most students don't study effectively at all. You can definitely study effectively in 1 hour and do a lot more than what you would've done in 5 hours uneffectively, wasting your time. Also, students generally just study for the test and for the grade but why aren't they taking school as an opportunity to learn and educate themselves on several subjects instead of just cramming stuff into your head that you'll forget after the test? This makes school useless and a waste of time.

TIP 1. study as soon as u get a book and topic but not 1 day before the exam. TIP 2. when studying always take brakes, it refreshes memory and does not make u suffer while studying. TIP 3. Before studying scheme through everything, ask question and enjoy what you are trying to read THESE TIPS ARE WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE VIDEO AND I BELIEVE IT WILL WORK 100%. TIP #1 IS MOST IMPORTANT.

All my life i was a below average student guys. It took me 22 years to realise that "we need to understand what we study on and focus on it" .i study clinical dietetics and boy its hard but i swear to you . If you just take the general idea of what youre studying, take breaks frequently (at least 10 minute ones per 30-40 minutes of study) and focus on it you will do AMAZING !!! i follow this and now im one of the top in my class and i love it. And i only study 2 hours per day 2 months before the semester ends. But when i study i study and when i take a break i take a break. Follow that and you will do good enough.

You don't have to do 5-minute breaks every 25/30 minutes (Pomodoro technique) You do what works for you. If the material is interesting and you are getting shit done, why pause? Pause every 2 hours. (It's easy to forget to make pauses when you are focused, which can make you exhausted though) But if the material is annoying and hard to go through, just make pauses with rewards in order to be on track.

i found that using my phone during this 5 minutes break makes it more than that. so i try not to use my phone & turn off the cellular data until i am completely done or time for my long break. instead during the 5 mins break, i just listen to one song & clear my head or do a few exercises to stretch my muscles as i have back & knee problems from sitting too long for studying.

I'm watching this and tears actually start flowing from my eyes. I've been struggling with school for more than 10 years now (I'm 24 in september) and I have a lot of exams in August and I didn't know what to do different to succeed, cause I have been trying and failling and this is my hardest semester ever. And I feel like my future really depends on this one. I have been stressed and depressed since June, since I got my results. It is so bad no one thinks I'll succeed and I can't blame them because I don't believe in myself either. But I know this advice here is the best I ever got and I will apply it as of today. I might still not pass my year given I only have a few weeks left but I am hopeful now and I know I'll do way better than if I hadn't gotten this advice. Thank you so much !! I'll rewatch this video to make sure it sticks. Thank you ! Goodluck to anyone struggling in school, you are not dumb, you just wasn't taught the right methods. Apply every good advice you can find and I trust you will succeed. Let's do this ❤️🔥

I believe in you. Ofcourse you will succeed in life. Just relax and breathe. Don't worry about who thinks you are a failure. There are people who won't support or encourage you on your journey for a number of reasons, like 1. They think you are more privileged than them- the fact that you got accepted to a university and was able to do a science related subject shows that you have the capabilities. 2) They think you're lucky or you got lucky- they'll try to undermine your success and make it their duty to point out the things that went wrong in your life. They never speak positivity or encouragement. 3) They see you going places and they don't like that- if you and them are coming from the same place and they see you rising up from poverty, trying to improve yourself, getting an education or getting opportunities they will mostly like not support you. It's not because they don't like you, but it's because they look at your life and feel bad about theirs. You're everything they wished to achieve. You're everything they know they can't be. You've done everything and will do everything they didn't do and can't do. Don't take it personally. 4) They don't like you to have bigger dreams than them- if you talk to them about your dreams, goals, aspirations and plans then they might not always be happy for you. Especially if they know that you have the ambition, drive and potential to accomplish those things they'll try to deter you. That's where keeping silent about your business becomes important. Keep your goals and plans to yourself. You don't need anyone's approval. As long as it's what you want, you have the self-motivation and you know it will add value to yours and other's life then go for it. All I want you to do is just focus on yourself and improving your mental health. If you can give some a break for a few weeks then do so. Like how we are in the COVID-19 Pandemic, it's probably one of the best time to do some self reflection and improvement. School is out so now you've got some alone time. I would really suggest you read some self-help and personal development books. Here are my recommendations: 1. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle 2. The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer 3. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey 4. Think and Grow Rich: The Original 1937 Unedited Version by Napoleon Hill 5. Daring Greatly by Brené Brown 6. Man's Search For Meaning by Victor E. Frankl 7. Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell 8. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra 9. Atomic Habits by James Clear 10. A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle I have some more books to recommend that I think are amazing and life changing. If you need the complete list which is about 150 books then let me know. You don't have to read every single one but I'll tell you which are the absolute best. Stay Blessed😘

This video has helped me so much. Before watching this, I was trying to memorize facts, rather than understanding concepts. But when understanding concepts, memorizing facts becomes easier. I was studying Biology and simply studied with just "I need to graduate/pass upcoming exams" in mind, rather than just appreciating the subject and the fact that I actually love science. After this video, I understood everything much more clearly!

They just want you to know what's going on in the lecture. It's better for you if you prepare the lecture and understand the concepts of the subject. This way you'll understand the subject way better and you'll even get the chance to ask questions! You'll be able to save a lot of time by doing so.

it's the dumbest advice, how many of you guys don't have another class to go to after your lecture? all my lectures are back to back in the morning, followed by labs in the afternoon...so in order to do something like this, i have to skip classes and/or labs...it's dumb. nothing in school is hard to learn, it's being able to learn it fast enough to be ready for the next thing to learn that's difficult

This is exactly what I needed right now. I've never really thought about how to study effectively or how to improve my study habits. All I've done is just ram information into my brain forcefully with hope that it will stick long enough to move onto the next thing I need to learn. I know I've been in need of a new strategy, and I think I've found it.

You guys want a more understandable tip? Sleep at least 8 hours every night. After school consultate with teacher so she could explain you more about the thing you learned today. Go home, expand your notes about the thing you are learning with book or internet information. When you feel it’s enough, then leave your desk.( and maby have some sleep.) Before you go to school, try to remember what you were doing yesterday, try to understand what you were writing in those notes. When you go to school. Study your notes or information in book or internet. *this is my personal experience and I had 3 months left before exams, some how I made it with pretty good results* ! And remember! *if you are having exams this year, you should ask teacher what kind of exercises will be waiting you in exams, go and consultate with your teacher about older tests that were years earlier , that will be waiting you on the exams*

I start studying for my exams and finals the day school starts. Spend an hour reviewing old and new material for the exam each day or every other day then finals on the weekend. And I always try and get 8 hrs of sleep or else I can’t study the next day. It helps to prevent cramming and then you can easily search for questions you have the day before the exam and not miss out on reviewing. Over time, reviewing can be as short as 30 minutes and then have free time after

If your textbook has review questions at the end of the chapter it's a really good idea to read these as a part of 'surveying'. That way when you go through the chapter your mind will be looking for the answers to those questions. This is especially powerful at uni if your lecturer writes the content and practice questions for your course as well as the final exam.

there's a couple things which could use some expounding imo The first advice is absolutely crucial when it comes to all kinds of subjects that require you to do a lot of fact learning. Whenever you learn something, there needs to be a proper medium between new and old - it has to be new enough so that it's interesting but it also needs to be relatable so you can connect that new knowledge with something you already know and exactly this process takes place when you go over your notes and try to put it in your own words. If you ignore this step, it will stay too abstract and useless and you just forget it. Effective (great volume used efficiently over longer periods of time) study always has to do with habits. Will power is a limited resource that you wanna be careful with spending. This is the reason why you need to develop cues that get you into learning. These cues are usually processes that you want to set up and have to do with time, place and a trigger. Like being at place X at time Y and for example listening to that one song before you start studying. If you manage to develop such a habit, making yourself start studying becomes a lot easier. But for that to really work effectively, you need to also value what you learn, it has to be important for your path (Jordan Peterson talks about that quite a bit if you're interested in that). What's also important when you study greater topics is to know the topic for that day and have a partition of your studying into (usually) 3 phases. First you wanna review. The reason for that is because that's super important but also easy on you. The greater the goals are, the harder it is to sit down in the first place and when you tell yourself that you're just gonna first review what you did last time, it makes the start easier and that's half the battle. Afterwards comes the intense learning phase of the new material. Towards the end you wanna go through the structure of what you did and also develop a cue for ending your study. If you don't have a proper cue for ending your study time, you will continue thinking about it and that again eats into your breaks and makes them more inefficient. Being healthy overall is ofc crucial. Being healthy includes physical aspects (a balanced diet, enough sleep and exercising), emotional aspects (good relation with parents, friends, partner) and having goals (career, hobbies). You can miss some of those or have a bit of an imbalance without it causing much issue, but if you neglect these aspects too much, things will start collapsing. Study when you're in good shape and don't study too much. I can personally study extremely efficiently throughout a whole day when i'm well rested and got enough pressure but that has grave consequences, as I need at least 1-2 days of rest and I kill off my habits this way. A really reasonable amount of study time is 3-4 hours a day (outside of classes), 5 days a week. If you really need and want more, 6 is the absolute maximum. If you do more than that you build up exhaustion and on top of that you kill your motivation for that subject. The most effective times to study are IMO after breakfast and after lunch, with at least a 1hour break. Whatever you study, there are priorities. Good teachers will highlight what their priorities are, but good students also develop an eye for which topics have higher priority. This is a skill to constantly improve, test and reflect on. We waste way too much time studying things that don't matter. And there are way too many teachers that display the important contents of their subject in a non-transparent way or create tests that don't test crucial knowledge - which is incredible bad for your education. Think about what knowledge is crucial and how it could be tested and study in that way. Breaks. Breaks are about as important as your study time itself is. Everyone's a bit different when it comes to intervals of study time and breaks, try and develop a system that works well for you and make sure you don't only schedule study time but also the enjoyable things you wanna do that day. One of the most crucial aspects of breaks is that they actually have to let you reenergize. There are 2 crucial aspects for that. Firstly, you can't put stress on the same parts of the brain that you have been using all that time while studying. This applies to your small breaks during your study time but also to the time when you're finished. You just further exhaust yourself. Reading and watching videos for example usually accesses the exact same area. However, if you have conversations with people, social events or do something immersive that includes bodily activities, it actually allows yourself to recuperate as it accesses different energy. Secondly, the "treats" during your study time shouldnt be too good or you just start doing that instead. The real treats come after you actually finished studying for the day (which is also why you wanna study early in the day, so you have time in the evening to actually have a life). As mentioned in the video, you shouldn't wait until the very last moment and then try to do everything at once. But pressure can also be used as an effective tool as it will always have a great driving and motivational force. However, the key to using pressure correctly is to develop the ability to calculate the necessary study time beforehand. This way, you will feel the motivating pressure but it will not have a negative influence on your study performance. The reason why pressure is so useful is because it forces you to focus on the crucial aspects of studying and nothing else. If you study without pressure, you will be a lot less effective because you're not target-oriented.

when it comes to your small breaks inbetween studying, get out for some fresh air, have a coffee, a small snack and/or talk with a friend who's around. Powerful I remember my system of study I have put in place after reading a book I think in French it is call something like how to improve your memory. So I have three step study method first step I read diligently my note as soon as I get home. Second step early in the morning first thing I read again the note and try to memorise them step three in evening read again but this time rewrite the what I have memorised but using my own words. And few days later I revisit my notes again and so on.

how do you have the time?
@weirdokiller123126

Nala, you actually end up saving time. Let me explain. You don't have to endlessly gruel over your notes until you have them 100% memorized, word for word, every time you go through your notes. Instead, just look over them for 10-30 minutes. Absorb what you can, but don't worry if everything doesn't click right away. Instead of trying to remember the information, try to UNDERSTAND it. I'll give a couple examples. For a math problem, you shouldn't memorize formulas, you should understand why the formula works and be able to create the formula yourself by thinking about what you're trying to do in the big picture. In physics, you don't have to memorize that (Pressure) x (Volume) = (Temperature) x (Constant). Instead, you should understand why this is true, understand the chemistry and physics behind it all, and through that understanding you should be able to figure it out without memorizing. If you have a glass box full of air, and the temperature increases, then that means the particles are moving faster. If particles are moving faster, that means they are bumping into each other and the glass walls more often and with more force. If particles are bumping into the walls more often and with more force, then they are basically pushing against the glass walls. If the particles are pushing the glass harder, this means that there is more pressure on the glass. So you just used understanding and logic to figure out that an increase in temperature causes an increase in pressure. Now imagine that, instead of a glass box, this happens in a balloon. The particles push harder against the inside of the balloon as temperature increases. BUT, the glass box was not able to expand, so it kept the pressure contained. The balloon CAN expand though. So, as you increase temperature, the volume of the balloon also increases. So now you also know that an increase in temperature can cause an increase in volume. If you UNDERSTAND things, your brain just makes things click. Instead of trying to memorize definitions and equations and patterns, figure out the big picture. A class like Anatomy requires a lot of memorization, but the same concept can be applied. Instead of memorizing the name of each joint the the body, understand how the naming scheme works. The joint is named after the two bones that it connects together. Instead of memorizing that the knee is called the tibiofemoral joint, just think about it. The joint connects your tibia to your femur. Or, instead of memorizing that the shoulder and hip are ball-and-socket joints, that the knee is a hinge joint, and that the neck is a pivot joint, just think about what each of those types of joint means. There's no need to remember that the hip is a ball-and-socket joint, because you can figure it out at any time if you look down at your hip joint and see that is allows movement in nearly all directions. Or if you understand that the head of the femur (shaped like a BALL) goes into a cup-like depression in your pelvis. So, instead of spending all that time trying to memorize all your notes, just read over them here and there at your leisure, try to connect the dots so that you can recognize the big picture. Understand what is going on and why. So if you ever forget something, you can easily figure it out using logic and understanding. Make as many associations as you can. Connect each topic/chapter to one another. Connect what you learned in one class to something completely different you are learning in another class. Memorizing takes way too much time and effort. Once you begin to learn this way, looking through your notes becomes a breeze. Homework doesn't take as long. You don't have to study for as long. You make associations between different topics and classes, so while you're studying something like chemistry, you can be reminded of something you recently learned in your physics class. For example, maybe you need PURE alcohol that has absolutely NO water in it for a reaction you are doing in chemistry class. So, to get rid of all the water in the bottle of rubbing alcohol you use a substance that absorbs water called magnesium sulphate. Well this substance comes in big white chunks, and you COULD just toss those chunks into the bottle of alcohol/water and wait some time for the chunks to eventually absorb the water. BUT, you just remembered what you learned in physics class about surface area. So you realize that if you break the chunk up into much smaller pieces, more of the surface of the magnesium sulphate will be exposed to the alcohol/water mixture, and thus the water will be absorbed faster. Then you remember some even more basic physics and realize that shaking or stirring the mixture causes to move around, which means the magnesium sulphate is constantly contacting new molecules of water to absorb, which allows the water to be absorbed even faster. Kind of like how a big chunk of sugar will dissolve in water slower than the same sugar if it had been ground up, and how both will dissolve faster if you are stirring the mixture. This turned into a huge rant, and it got a bit off topic, but I still think this could help. Good luck!

Exactly what I've been doing wrong - studying too much, putting too much pressure and stress on myself and feeling frustrated that I haven't taken in more material. On top of that I've been sleeping poorly. Everything altogether is making me feel nauseous, so I've taken a step back to relax and take care of myself. I know I want a good education and I know I can do it, but I've been missing the right approach. Thank you because I've been noticing myself that when I can relax I'm more open to learning, rather than stressing and not being able to focus.

One of the best things I learned in college and I use it at work now, is to write all the things that your thinking about or worrying on the corner of the page and leave it there. Don't think about those things on the top of the page until your done.

I’m such a fool lol for my whole academic life, I’ve been memorising the textbook. I thought it was good that I could literally recall the pages of the book and felt that I could get the best grades. Now I know this is totally bs because I must understand what I’m learning. Put it into my own words. Thank you for the video. I hope everyone gets what grades they want this summer.
