Studying Artists I ADMIRE! 🤩 | Chihiro Howe & Samdoesarts!

Hello everyone! In this week's video I am going to be studying artist's that I admire and look up to! I will be studying the art styles of ‪@chihirohowe4917‬ and ‪@samdoesarts‬! For Chihiro's art I will be studying how she stylizes hands and feet. For Sam's art I will be studying his rendering style.

i definitely see the similarities between your art and chihiro’s art! if i wasn’t a artist and saw both of your pieces i would think its the same artist lol ✨ , and can i recommend a manga for you to read its called (the sign of the abyss) its really good and i love its art style but its underrated 🥲

I can tell their styles apart and also chihiro’s is a bit more detailed and also more loose/natural with posing and hair and stuff I can also think of a buncha other reasons why I don’t think they are similar

@ yea i agree with you but as i said if i wasn’t a artist i wouldn’t but if your a artist its easier to tell them apart but to a regular person im not sure if they would notice the difference :D

I actually do art studies of your style a lot because you’re my main inspiration for it, though I’ve developed my own style it’s a lot more semi realistic :D tho I do love those other artists and btw have a good day because we care about you ♥️

12:48 I feel like a big part of achieving that loose- painty feeling is not letting the lineart control the way you shade your drawing. In his coloring video, you can see that even his sketches are loose, and you mainly see the colors being a bigger focus than the lines that he mostly uses as guidelines for where the colors and shading will go. It seems like, compared to samdoesart, you focus much more on following the lines than sam does. That leads to the drawing feeling less loose and painterly. I suggest not drawing lineart, and just use the sketch as a guideline to where to block in colors. But I must say, the end result was stunning either way! ☺️

I love Sam's lighting and how u were able to replicate it! It looks gorgeous Also if ur wanting to find anyone to do an art study on I'd rlly recommend trying to study Hanacue's art and how she does hair!! (I rlly love how she makes it so flowy lol)

I always think it’s so cool that you have a sister who loves art too. I think having Reagan (who likely has an artist inclined brain too) to bounce ideas and artistic thoughts around with must be super helpful. You can probably spot each others’ blind spots in art and learn together which is super cool!

These turned out so nicely!!! I can definitely see the inspo in your art from Chihiro, so cute!!! Also I think Sam does only use default brushes and like the round brushes, and sketches by color blocking and then refining the shapes he puts down, rather than sketching and lining; I think that's why his have that looser paint look that you mentioned---This was really nice to watch though ☺️☺️☺️💕💕💕✨✨✨

I learnt in college anatomy wise that the palm is sort of made up of three shapes (I personally saw these shapes in the three back in college) a flexi-ruler(top part), jellybean and cupcake case(where the thumb connects) and that's what I used to draw my hands accurately 😂

i was just watching one of your old videos when you talked about chihiro's art and i was like "ah her art is very bekah coded" 😊 the digital painting turned out so pretty!! i can also be a control freak when it comes to art lol pinterests alts... i also kinda hate pinterest and usually only use it to look for "trendier" reference pictures lol. but usually for reference pictures i will often do a web search with an ad blocker & an extension that's supposed to filter out 🅰👁 images

Also I get ya with the pinterest love hate, I always find myself returning to it for referenced and building character inspo but I despise the AI slop all over it (+ it's always been iffy with art theft ;;o;;) but I have yet to find a site that works as an alternative that I want to go back to

I am someone who does personally draw and prefer the "looser" painterly style, and to maybe help you understand why I and others like Sam enjoy it, I'll put a few main points. It does take longer generally, but it's also less restrictive than a line focused style, and you can easily block in, crop, or remove shapes without the hesitation of spending hours on lineart. I can be indecisive when painting, and I just feel as though it makes me less hesitant to change something that I know is off. Painterly art styles will mainly have focus on one part of the image, so you don't actually need to put in as much work into making everything look polished and rendered, even a few large strokes can still fit well in the piece. Lately I've also started to like textured brushes and more visible brush strokes, it just gives it a handpainted feel. And it's fun slowly seeing the piece come together. It might not be your style, and it's fine! I love how clean and neat your style is, but it's not for me. Beautiful work!

An artist I really admire is Minna Sundberg, the creator of Stand Still, Stay Silent. She has this gorgeous sketchy, painterly, ethereal style. But I'm also too nervous to recreate that digitally, which is why I enjoy sketching in pen in the margins of my notes.

I think sam style is like easy to learn hard to master , you did a very good job in this illustration , I think it could be better if you used a rounded brush not just a hard brush then blend ,It gives you more textured and detailed look , but overall it is a nice drawing👏
