Hey Guido, long time no see! It's so cool to see how far you've come, and it's so great to hear you talk so positively about school, classmates and Viborg. I can only imagine how stressful studying abroad is in the beginning, so it's nice to see that you've settled in well. I was fortunate to get to intern for a week in 2020 for CA, and it was such an amazing experience! I got to make a few exercises on paper, and even did a small dance animation. The students were all so incredibly welcoming and friendly, and it absolutely solidified my choice in career. If anyone want to apply for TAW (and live in Denmark), I can _highly_ recommend doing an internship at the school first. It gives you an idea about how the program works, how many hours you spend in class, and how the environment of the school is. I know I enjoyed myself so much, that I didn't get home until about 8PM every single day, because I had so much fun with the students, and working on my animation. Best of luck to anyone applying!

Thanks a lot ! Your video is really helpful and encouraging.✨ I was wondering if there are any foreigners. I'm not Danish myself. Could I study in English or should I learn Danish?
@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
About half of the students are international from all over Europe and beyond. and all teaching is in English.

this school sounds amazing! just wondering if you also learn about things like character design / story / compositing?

we get a 1 week course for each, but there's also self study in the 2nd and 3rd year where you can dive into any subject you're interested in.

hello! thanks for this very informative video. i want to apply to TAW in the character animation track. however i recently attended TAW's online open house, where i learned about the graphic storytelling track, which also sounded dope. do you know about GS? if so, could you recommend it, or maybe speak about the different types of people who would choose either CA or GS, and what kind of work they each want to do? thanks again!
@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
Of course! I also considered GS. While the courses might sound similar there are some key differences. CA prepares you for a job in the animation industry, about 75% of the classes we get are animation exercises in both 2D and 3D animation. and nearly half of the course are based on projects working in teams, teamwork is very important in the animation industry. CA graduates usually end up working as animators or sometimes storyboard artists, or character designers and work usually in a studio for longer periods of time. GS is more general, GS graduates end up as illustrators and writers working on children's books or comics and work primarily independently as freelancers. classes are focused on writing, visual development, comics, and illustration. So before picking, really ask yourself what your end goal is, and then ask yourself how you are gonna get there. Do your research and good luck!

Hello again @@guidoduijn ! If you see this and if you have time, I did have some other questions. 1) I'm wondering if there can be any cross-pollination between the classes in CA and in GS--do students have the possibility to take classes from the other track, or are the tracks very strict in their structure? 2) I'm also wondering: I've seen some animated films that were made by GS students--so does that mean that animation is also taught and executed in the GS track? Thanks for your time!!

Hello, about the portfolio to enter TAW, do you think it's a good idea to only do traditional art if you don't have any experience with digital or should i just learn it?
@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
I think its totally fine if your portfolio is just traditional art. Maybe you could include a couple of digital pieces in the optional section to show you've tried it and you're open to learn

Hi! Thank you so much for this video, it really helps to understand what it's like to be a student at TAW! I have a question that concerns the weather and the sunlight. I was wandering if it is hard to face the winter days when the sunset is very early in the afternoon. Does it affect your mood? I love taw and I'd love to attend the school. However, as I'm not from the Northen countries in EU, I don't know if this should be something I have to worry about. But as you showed in the video, there's so much to do and the atmosphere is so cool that I don't think this could be a problem!
@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
thank you so much! Other people might have different opinions on it, but in my experience the winters are long and dark which can be hard at times. still I wouldn't let that ruin the experience. :)

Ciao Gaia, fellow Italian here! (I apologise in advance if my assumption is wrong) I just graduated in Graphic Storytelling, so I spent 4 years at TAW. How hard the winters are really depends on your personal needs. I am lucky enough that I don't mind the darkness so much, and I hate the heat, so winters for me have been actually quite pleasant. You will need to get vitamin D, your doctor will take any chance to prescribe it to you (for good reason). Other fellow southern EU students had a harder experience than me, I know some would buy sun therapy lamps and that they can help. One of the nice things is that Viborg will light up Christmas lights pretty quickly between October and January. No one likes the darkness, especially not the Scandinavians ahaha I would advise to actually be mindful of the summer sun! That is easily what personally affected me the most. When the sun rises at 4/5 in the morning, you might need to make sure you have blinds for that (which almost never come with the apartment, not a thing here). The amount of light during the day can be pretty overwhelming. Pretty tho! flowers all around and good vibes. If you are worried about the winters, remember most people feel the same. Easily a lot of people will just want to cuddle up in a cozy blanket and having snacks together. Hope this helps! Un saluto!!!

Hi! I am applying for the graphic storytelling program and I'm wondering if you know how the classes are structured. Do you have to take a lot of digital notes on laptops or can you do it in regular notebooks. Or are the lessons done in the computer labs?
@guidoduijn5 ай бұрын
My girlfriend is in graphic story telling and says: Lectures are given in a lecture room and most notes are taken in notebooks or ipads. Assignments are done in de studios traditionally or digitally on computers or iPads

@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
I'm on a summer internship right now and I love it. internships offer you the opportunity to experience working in the industry and are an easy way into studios. Before applying to the education I'd recommend anyone to research the industry first and even better to get some experience so you know what you're getting into after school.

Sounds awesome! I was wondering if this is your first higher education? Because I will finish my bachelor in a year (illustration) and am looking to move into animation. But I’m not sure if I should apply for a second bachelor 🤔. There are so few master courses sadly.

This is my first higher education, but I have classmates that have already finished a bachelors. So it’s definitely possible. But there’s also great master programs at MoMe, RCA, akv st Joost, and Gobelins.

Hi! Do you know how does a international student without experience in IT makes a student portfolio for character animation?
@guidoduijn8 ай бұрын
You don't need any experience in animation softwares, the school will teach you how to use them. For the portfolio you just need a program that let's you make a PDF, I used google slides

Thank you very much for sharing ❤, i wish i could study there , but for internationals 1 semester is like 14.000 euros if I'm not mistaken , i mean its crazy 😅
@guidoduijn Жыл бұрын
The tuition is 7.115,86 euro per semester but only for non-eu students. Which is affordable compared to tuition fees in the UK and USA. But regardless it is worth it.
