I hv read about it. Its really dangerous with 100% fatality rate (kinda like rabiz). But its very hard for Amoeba to enter through our nose. Its very rare case mostly happen when water force through our nose, like when you splash into water. Normally our nose block the foreign object and but sometimes it might enter. Again its very rare case. For more info, refer "The Most Horrible Parasite: Brain Eating Amoeba" by Kurzgesagt. They have explained very well.

Being a microbiologists I can tell 3 reasons. 1) They travel frequently to foreign countries while make then vulnerable to diseases. 2) Most parts of Kerela is still forest areas and hills so animals and birds are big reason spreading disease..mainly bats. 3) Though rare but eating animals and birds by directly catching from forests by tribal popluation

This particular amoeba only infects you if your nasal passages or eyes come into contact with freshwater that contains this bacteria. Ingesting the infected water does not cause an infection. But I guess it is terrifying either way, since water can get into either place during a bath.
