The soft red wheat rickhouse proof is great. The BIB bourbon is fine but there are a lot of other options I would choose over it.

The entire line up is great. Small Batches can change on the next batch. Literally what you describe for changing over time is every whiskey that is aged. Especially long periods.

I just did a 7 way wheater blind under 110 proof, and my bottle of 6yr soft red wheat BiB only came in 4th. As others have said, I much prefer the Rickhouse Proof, although I too would have had a higher bias rating in my ranking if I had known which one was Ben Holladay.

I get a mineral taste from Ben Holladay products. Not sure if it comes from the initial pour or they just need to mature more in the barrel. I got a Soft Red Winter Wheat Rickhouse proof and it is just ok, I like other stuff way better. I’ll revisit the brand in a few years.

Nice review! Store owner friend gave me a sample of this and I thought it was just okay but not buy worthy. I thought the same on the Rickhouse soft red wheat but that’s just me:) Cheers!

It a fan of this bottle I do enjoy the soft red wheat though. Still haven’t tried the Rickhouse yet but I’m trying. Have only seen it once and was at the store for something else. Hopefully soon.

Ben Holladay is one of my go to's...this is a good one...but harder to find than the standard 6 year BiB

I've had one bottle of Ben Holladay - the Soft Red Wheat BiB. It was good, but it wasn't worth $56. I think $30 would've been a fair price. It just needed more authority in the flavor - it tasted good, but the flavors were a bit timid.

I am one of the (few?) guys that prefers this mash bill to the Soft Red Wheat (one bottle each of Rickhouse Proof in). I have one delish SRW pick, with another good local picker releasing one in March. I keep being very tempted to order a national pick of the regular mashbill, and being close-ish to the distillery, plan to get up there in a couple of months.

Great show as always! I've just popped the cork on an Early Times Bottled in Bond which tastes far different from the last bottle, which I killed not long ago. I hope that it gets better when I revisit it. I'm wondering if Sazarac is putting out bottles with its own distillate now? Cheers!

I quite liked the BiB and Soft Red Wheat 100pf releases of Ben Holladay, but the Rickhouse Proof releases aren't distributed to my area (yet) and it's those releases that are getting all of the praise. I know I can buy online, but dealing with shipping and having to be present to sign for a shipment is major pain. I guess I will just wait it out and hope they eventually distribute further west.

I also like the rickhouse proofs of Ben Holladay. I have not tried the BiB's and might not now due to your review. I'll just stick to the higher proof versions. I did get a bottle of Bourbon Lore 18 pick which is very good.

Sprite is “bright” and Coca Cola is “dark” for example, not in color, but in taste. Whiskey can be the same way to our palates.

I love Ben Holladay, but just like many other great bourbons that taste great on their own…. you pick out the oddities when you follow from another bourbon. I suggest skipping the other brand warm-up bourbon. -I have about 200 labels, and I love Ben Holladay trust me on that one

Love your reviews…palate seems to line up 9 times out of 10 with me…Ben Holladay is good juice but something I personally really reach for. Does not mean it’s not good. It just does not do it for me.
