Stuffing MASSIVE 275/40r17 tires under all corners of the ’67 Mustang Fastback!

Evan's '67 Mustang Fastback project is moving right along, and today the boys are measuring to fit some big tires in both the front and the rear. The plan is to get a 275/40r17 tire to fit in all four corners of the car, wrapping a 9.5" wheel on both the front and rear.
This Mustang Fastback has come a long way since it was dipped in acid over a year ago, but the next steps in the restoration are going to be exciting to watch!
After some careful measuring, we're decided to get the front wheels as a 9.5" with 6.5" BS, and the rears will be 9.5" with 5.75" BS. We want to avoid the chance of rubbing, so we back off the measurements by another quarter inch that we can ultimately make up with a shim/spacer if needed.
Full Suspension by ‪@StreetorTrackLLC‬including the Billet Big Spindles up front, allowing for these massive tires.

sometimes i regret chopping out my shock towers for M2 when i see things like this, but then i hit the pedal and listen to that sweet whistle of the turbo spooling and imagine how wonderful it'll sound when there's 2 of them. awesome project guys. can't believe it took me so long to discover your channel.

On my 1969 Mustang I wanted to run wide with no issues, so its 17x8 on the front with 245/45/r17 and on the back the correct fit is 17x9 with 5.5" backspacing with a 275/40R17. At least for 69 -73 you should be able to fit with no rubbing or modifications. Unfortunately, I don't know why so few offer the 17x9 in the correct 5.5" backspacing, the more common 5" backspacing might work if you are going to roll the rear, maybe. Dispointed that american racing discontinued the magnum 500 in the 17x9 with the correct 5.5" backspacing, only offer in 5"

Well it's certainly progressed since the last time we saw it ! I guess it's still at the bodyshop and all of the running gear will be removed fo painting ? Thanks for sharing .

Yes, exactly. We've got just a little bit of final welding to do under the car, then all the suspension will be coming back off to spray on the undercoating under the car. Then, we'll hit the interior with Lizardskin insulator and sound deadener. Then the car will be ready for paint and assembly. We really hope to have it on the road this summer!

275's look too wide at the front for my liking. 275's on the rear and 235/45/r17's up front the sweet spot imo. 275*40 = 110. 235*45 = 105.75 so this creates a very slight downward slope on the vehicle.

I’m at the same point with my 69 Mach1. Do you have 245’s all around on your coupe or wider in back? I put stock style front suspension so no way 9 1/2 inch rim fitting up there! Great Job, can’t wait to see the progress.

I have a 1969 Mach 1, I run a 17x9 in the back with 5.5" backspacing with a 275/40R17 The issue is very few 17x9 wheels come in the correct backspacing, most are 5" backspacing which will not work so well. American racing used to make the magnum 500 in the correct 5.5" backspacing but they discontinued it and only offer it in 5" now. I started with 15x8 magnums but was tired of overpriced cosmetic performance retro tires, I wish they made a true 15" performance tire. I run Cragar SS on mine, issue is they are heavy. On the front I run the standard 17x8 with the 4.5" backspace, that's easy to find. I like the idea of 15" or 16" but finding tires is the issue, and if you want to go wide in back 17's are key

so with the 6 speed dual OD's with a 4.11 rear or a really low 1st gear with one OD and a 3.00 rear end?

The gear ratios on the 6 Speed Magnum are: 2.97, 2.10, 1.46, 1.00, .80, .63, and the rear end is a 3.70 limited slip. I think this will be a good street setup.

Man is that nice. I put 245 45 17 on my 67. 17x8 Cragar 500G wheels. No problems but I’m going to coil overs to tuck them. Back in 1967 my friend drove in one day with a brand new 66 fastback. Yellow with 289 4 speed. Dumb ass rolled it running from cops. What color you painting her?

Nope, not mini tubbed. I'm running SoT suspension all the way around which frees up some room in the back by removing the leaf springs, but these 9.5" wheels fit out back without any other modifications.
