Per a scryfall search for "year=2023" and the setting "unique prints", there were 9,179 distinct magic cards printed this year. That would be a rate of 1 card every 3,436 seconds, or just over one card per hour.

For anyone wondering: they used "++ date=2023" which yields every unique version of every card printed this year. HOWEVER that's actually too low as it doesn't include planes or arena only cards. So you actually need to make sure you either aren't logged in to scryfall or have your search settings set to show everything and use "++ date=2023 -t:token". The last bit excludes tokens, of which there were about 400. Brings our new total to 10360, which is 1 card every 50 minutes 44.02 seconds

@@cameronhall6825 1/2 of those 9k are fancy borders or stretchy art, etc, with 1/4 being alternate arts. Still, that's well over 1k cards which are mostly new designs, so your point still stands.

In a related note, there were 405 Commanders printed for the first time in 2023, meaning we've gotten an average of around 1.109 new Commanders each day.

51:22 The time between WOE and LCI isn't that much different form how Standard sets have always been. The difficulty from processing is having other things you need to keep track of being heavily invested in in the game. The frequency of Standard sets hasn't shot up.

I understand choosing not to do LCI nicknames given the time constraints. That said, I will throw out my favorite among the ones I prepped, for Amalia Benavides Aguirre, "Conquistadora the Explorer."

I really hope in the next Un- product they add a "Foil" or mana symbol with the reminder text "{F} is mana from a Foil source", if only because then scryfall will need a new useless symbol

Vito has you sacrifice any Permanent, not just creature. That includes lands and all the various artifact tokens that sacrifice themselves.

First time that I have seen Wheeler not having actual perfect encyclopedic knowledge of Magic. 😮 Jokes aside, would love to have more episodes like this, perhaps with other periods/years of Magic’s history? I must also agree that they should pump the breaks, at least a bit, the pace for new things has just gotten a tad too much.
