it did not answer because he stressed the insect by enclosing him, so all the venom is in the jar before it evaporates, and thus the sting was empty. so the pain was probably not more than a wasp, and wasp are not really painfull, unless at specific moment of the season when they sting is fully charged with venom. But hornet can contain many drops of venom, and here there was not even a single drop.

These guys are MASSIVE in person, they sound like a tiny helicopter going past, but they usually want nothing to do with you unless you’re messing with their nest ..or you hold one to your forearm with a pair of tweezers lol. I’ve got a few nests near me because they like to use the bark of my wife’s lilac plants for their nests and I rarely even see them. I’ve gotten close to them but they’ve shown zero aggression. I had one trapped in my shed and it was calm enough that I scooped it up and brought it outside with no issue. If you see these guys and they’re not bothering you, don’t bother them.
@SpatulaQuerquedula
@SpatulaQuerquedula Жыл бұрын
The tiny helicopter really is the perfect comparison - I don't need to have my glasses on to tell them apart from other insects, I can just *hear* them, it's such a specific sound, nothing else sounds like it, at least around here. One flew into my kitchen the other day and even before I saw it I locked my younger siblings, dogs and allergic mother in another room, just yelling "I heard a hornet" - no further explanation required. However, I am absolutely terrified of them (probably because of my mother's allergy) and if it comes inside, if it doesn't leave before I get to it, it's signed its own death sentence. I'm not about to gently carry it outside, that treatment is reserved for bees only.

I'm so tired of people claiming these hornets are not aggressive or that their sting compares to a honeybee. Bull Fucking Shit. You obviously have never been stung. I was stung four times on the foot by the same hornet for the crime of literally going out onto my front porch to pick up a package. There are no nests nearby. I did not step on it or near it, It flew over for the express purpose of stinging me. It was one of the most painful stings I've ever had, and YES I've been stung by honeybees many times, I kept accidentally stepping on them as a kid at swim meets. This is WAY more painful, WAY more prolonged, swelled WAY more. Not in the same realm. I worry that people will listen to the pooh-poohing and assume they won't get stung or that they don't need to exterminate a nest on their property. It is entirely legal in the US and you are taking some serious chances by not doing so.

European hornets are actually rather docile, as long as you don't disturb the nest. What actually makes the European hornet pretty scary is that they don't even have to sting you to harm you. See, they also happen to shoot/spray venom and can do so up to a meter's distance, they will aim for your eyes and whatnot. There's the risk of getting permanent nerve damage from that. Imo much worse than just getting stung.

It’s interesting, he’s screaming like a banshee but reading information specific to the European Hornet (American Hornet) stipulates regardless as to its size its sting is mild, more akin to that from a Honey bee. But it does have a smooth stinger and can sting multiple times.

Those European hornets are a problem here in Pennsylvania. In the one early morning in early Fall, Dad stepped on one and was in pain until around noon.

Once one of these guys got into my car while I was driving. I heard a thud as if a stone had been thrown in the back. Then I heard the classic biz. I didn't see it, but I suspected it was one of them, it's unmistakable. Luckily, he remained calm and crawled, if he had started flying wildly I would definitely have risked an accident. I had to carry him around for about ten minutes before I found a safe place to stop and let him out. After opening the door, he flew away without caring about me fortunately.

Hey Coyote Peterson. Have you heard about the Philippine eagle? It is known to be the largest and the most rarest eagle in the world. And it is also called the "Monkey eating eagles". And a Philippine eagle's distinct features are: long crown feathers, massive arched beak, and two Bluish eyes that are said to be really sharp. These birds have much clearer Eyesights compared to humans, and have the capacity to see eight times the distance that the human eye can see. And some people say that it is stronger than the American Bald eagle.

The best thing about the european hornet is that it won‘t sting you if you don’t provoke it actively. And as long as you don’t eat insects it isn‘t really interested in your food.

Because the eoropean hornet rarely release more than 10 % of the venom. It is more potent, but not that much. If it had released the whole load, I think he would have found it is very painfull.

I mean, I'm not doubting that this thing might not have the strongest of stings, but at this point he's been stung what, 6 time? By two different bugs? And treated with the sting kill stuff? He might be a little numb to this big guy.

I'm no expert, but European Hornets are far less aggressive than other species, and they really only sting when they are defending or in danger, but it is only slightly worse than a honey bee sting
