Amazing detecting and research episode Alexander! Loving your philosophy to be prepared to accept information from others who may have experience and knowledge a plenty. Have you considered taking the possible gilded Kazak artefact to a archaeological university to be XRFed? I know Bournemouth have a machine which can tell you the origins of metallic elements in any find in about 45 seconds. Department chief Dr Derek Pitman (of Time Team & Career In Ruins podcast fame) is the chief XRF guy you want on your side. What have you got to lose? Call them.. Call them.. 👍😬😂

Hello Alex, what a varied selection of finds. I’m envious of the time periods you have finds from. We Americans on the West coast are relegated to hopefully older coins along with some being silver and the much rarer gold one. Beach hunting we still regularly get gold and silver jewelry. My old favorite spots along rivers have been absolutely ruined by the homeless who camp and trash everything up. Of course they don’t lose any silver or gold crack pipes or syringes. I’m relegated to hunting the foothills for the occasional gold nugget or a coin of hopefully silver and the illusive gold one. Thanks for taking us along on your hunt… John

Cracking array of finds as ever, Alex. I get what you're saying about the "set square" being a little flimsy for a furniture brace, though maybe it was purely decorative. Being incomplete, we don't know its true original form but I'd be leaning towards its maybe coming off a thumping great book cover. Maybe identifying what the etchings in the finials are might give a pointer, too.

The ‘Hoop’ at 26:20 on the left looks like Bronze Age Ring Money. Crudely made as most coins were and I believe the bronze in these was dated to 2500-800 BC. But you need to put up better pictures. The patina and way it is made and finger ring size points to that.

@@HolzHammerSagas Many people also still believe that the Flintlock Jaw Screws are furniture fittings. These ‘coins’ would have been cast by the million so were made very quickly. Hi Alex, I always have my doubts when the consensus is a furniture fitting. It seems to be the default for ‘Don’t Know’. If it is crudely made it might be Roman or amateur made ? But most periods items were generally very well and accurately made. Metal values were much higher back in the past because there was no mechanised mining so great care was taken during manufacture. I assume the Romans used slaves to mine metals so their metals were relatively less expensive. It would be good to research which periods accepted sub regular artefacts. Not many I suspect. Coins were obviously Sub Regular because they needed to be mass produced at near zero cost and the value was in the base metal. Only in the last 300 years or so has perfect regular shaped coinage been possible due to modern machinery being available. 👍

I laughed when you described the thimble as ‘quite nice’ and ‘lovely’. You sound like me and Roman coins, although I’m not sure I could be as convincingly interested! Love the strap end - there’s nothing missing from it, yours is complete. You can get two types, one more vase shaped (my description, not the proper one)and the type you have which is round. It’s very lovely. Thanks for the big up to the Detecting Hub, we always appreciate it! Great video (as usual) especially as there were no Roman coins! P.S. stop peeing about and buy the controller for the signal sounds - it’ll be cheaper than all the equipment you keep buying.
