That's an absolutely incredible performance. You'd never know that song is not hers, the way she is so emotionally invested in it. Her storytelling is second to none.

Do you know how long time they used to make and rehearse this? I do! Read on: This is from the tribute concert in Oslo Spektrum, 25 april 2017 (Cohen died 07 november 2016). There was a lot of artist making their tribute. It is not her band. It was "The Salmon Smokers" that was doing the concert, with guest vocalists like Aurora. 23 songs was preformed... The band rehearsed all the songs long time before, and had 30-45 minutes with every artist rehearsing so the artist could "make" the artists version of it... Not possible to go VERY far from the original then.... Why do I know this? Because the drummer Eivind and I come from the same town, and I sent him a message about it because I was curies about how they did it :-) "Aurora gives EVERYTHING both in the rehearsal and at the concert" he also said... When Cohen died, Aurora was in the USA. When she heard about it she was SO sad, and changed her concert in Chicago to include "So Long Marianne", and I think her face say it all in that performance. It was done 11 november, only 4 days after his death. (Link below). Marianne actually was Norwegian, so you have a Norwegian lady singing Cohen's song about a Norwegian lady :-) AND Aurora did actually meet Marianne! kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2WmmKyMgq-ce80 I had the greate privilege to be at a local concert last year where Eivind (drummer) and Freddy Holm (strings in this video) played in a local band. Freddy are fantastic on everyting with a string on.... Both he and Eivind has to be on the top in Norway in their "categories".

Aurora is such a talent, especially if you have musical empathy (apparently about 20% aren't). It is a combination of here clear diction and some quality of voice allied to her own empathy. She has it, what ever "it" is.

Cohen often plays in the background when my wife and I cook (she cooks and I provide the red wine, the music and the ingredients for the meal). Aurora grew up with Cohen and his poetry certainly had an influence on Aurora's world 😊. I believe that she didn't do this performance for the audience, but for him and he certainly looked down from his cloud and hummed along leisurely. You could tell at the beginning that you were completely captured and the storyteller Aurora did her part. Before you react to " Why dit you have to go" I would suggest seeing a live performance, otherwise you will fall into a sad hole and we don't want that😢. Too much sad music one after the other... well, you decide and we'll follow along. Nice reaction (You forgot your wine😂) but coffee/Tea work too 😅

@@Holgerdansk Thanks. I'm sure red wine and music provide your wife with the inspiration to cook some wonderful food. Yes, this performance really captivated me, which I should've expected really. This is in minority of her covers where we know for sure, that it was not a spontaneously created performance after the arrived. Like I explained before that many, if not most, of her covers are. If you want an emotional song then you should watch "Why Did You Have To Go?" I recommend the version with "fan-made video" in the title. When Aurora was 17 in February 2014 a girl from her school class tragically died in a car accident, and she wrote this song for the funeral. It does not sound like a live performance in a church, so I'm not sure if she sang it live as well or if they played this recording. This was 1 month before Aurora was "discovered" for real in Norway at the Oslo festival by:Larm 2014. The only reason the fan community know about this song at all, is because the girls mother in January 2017 posted a video on fb with images of her daughter and with Aurora's song playing, and she wrote this about the song (translated): "It is such a lovely song. It is beautifully written and at the same time so infinitely sad.", and then she quotes Aurora: "It is important that the song can be cried to. That it is reminiscent of grief but at the same time, that it can relieve a little. The song is her song, and it always will be. I only had her in mind when I sang it, and I think a little part of her is in it if you listen extra carefully." The fan-made video has nothing to do with the song, since only the audio from the fb video was related to Aurora. it is just fitting, in my opinion, video snippets from different small documentaries about Aurora.

That was the anniversary of Cohen's death, this concert. Many artists came and sang his songs. Including Aurora with this one. Aurora grew up with his songs and was one of her great role models. Musically, you should recognize chorus from the world hit "When i need you" by Leo Sayer. They were stolen from Cohen's song and led to a legal battle that Cohen won. When I need you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZbdg4WqbJ14j7Msi=J7WDrkYk6DIfLOcO The term "go clear" comes from Scientologists. If I'm not mistaken, the song with this reference is also about this sect too.
