The AirClips.com Team had the fantastic opportunity to join Nolinor Chief Pilot Captain Jean-Christophe "JC" and his First Officer Pierre-Charles on a very very special mission on their classic 1983-built ex-Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737-200 Combi aircraft with an upgraded "glass cockpit". The trip started at the company's home base in Montreal Mirabel with only passengers, but not yet cargo on board. After less than an hour we landed in Val-d'Or for adding two pallets of cargo. From there a long stretch all across the Hudson Bay took us to Meadowbank Gold Mine where our relatively heavy jet landed on a GRAVEL STRIP! The first two legs will be shown in each one ULTIMATE COCKPIT MOVIE. The return flights, which are also released on Air-Clips.com, took us all the way back with a fuel stop in Renkin Inlet and then back to Mirabel viaVal-d'Or. Enjoy AMAZING sights along the trip!

This design of thrust reverser also has sort of an air brake effect too. So you’re not only getting reversed thrust but two times the amount of air brake.

It never fails to amaze me every time I travel by air. I would like a window seat, just to look at the flaps deployed, retracted etc. during takeoff and landing.

Man love the old 200s. Smoked like a chimney, loud as hell, burned fuel, but spooled up quick and hauled ass!!! Our pilots use to love them on the short hauls.

Once, I was seated next to a first-time flyer in that exact row, she had the window. She told me she was VERY worried, so I said I would explain every noise and everything happening on the wing, and reassure her that it was all completely normal. So I did, but she was still nervous as heck. I didn’t think to tell her about the thrust reverser being about to open, ahead of time... oops... when it happened, she practically shit her pants...

Compared to newer 737 models, maintenance costs are very high. But a big advantage is that You`re able to land almost everywhere with the slim engines, even on a meadow. One reason that some of them are still flying, for instance in Canada ( Nolinor Aviation ).

YES, this was the old thrust reverser on aircraft, called the clam shell. The reverser was deployed at the back of the engine. Today the thrust reverser is at the front of the engine. The first time I saw this was on Frontier Airlines 737-100 in the late 60's when we flew from Denver, CO -> Scottsbluff, NE -> Grand Island, NE -> Lincoln, NE and finally Omaha, NE - COOLEST THING EVER. They also did what they called a POWER BACK. Most Airlines utilized this all the time in RURAL airports, where there were no ground support equipment, e.g. Scottsbluff, Grand Island Nebraska.

I just travelled back in time 30 years... I am 6 years old, flying from Inuvik NWT to Edmonton Alberta, so I can see a diabetic specialist. I've been playing Tetris on my (first generation) Game Boy for 4+ consecutive hours, and watching the engines unfold, as the plane lands, is the ultimate high point of the trip (even cooler than romping through West Edmonton Mall with 1/2 a years worth of allowance in my fist). X3 -thx for the trip.

That is the exact view that got me into aviation, along with the noise. B737-300 Birmingham (BHX) to Tenerife South (TFS) on board a Britannia Airways machine when I was just 9 years old. From that day, I was hooked, and I still am. I have to say, if I ever win big on the lottery, I'm gonna have a hunt around for a decent B732 and have it as a biz jet, and then I'll buy a 727-200 aswell!

No FMC to program, no waiting for the IRS to stand up. Just start up and go. Hand flying the 200 is a dream. Very little pitch change with thrust. Flys like a Piper warrior and just as easy to land. Boeing should have retired the design long before the 800 and definitely before the Max.

Remember, I was younger. That jet engine was loud, until replaced new B737-300 much less noise and more passenger was improved and until farewell in 47 years of B737 services, we replaced new AirBus 32x-xxx from since 2015. Later years, we heard that B737-Max were crashed in twice, that sadly. However we're lucky that no longer B737 at last.

It may have been a stubby guppy, but the 737-200 was a joy to fly! It flew like an airplane, (not a truck, like the 737-300), and those P&W JT8D engines were pretty much indestructible! I remember getting my type ride in an old Continental 737-100 model. We're sitting at the gate, after midnight in OK City and someone asks, 'Who is going to push us back from the gate?' The reply from the observer/check airman was, 'Oh, nobody, we'll just power back.' No problem, those were the days...

A little help here please... It seems to me that watching these older planes redirecting the thrust by moving a Cowell in to place to slow to stop the plane have less wear and tear on the new engines that are traveling at great speeds only to reverse the trust internally like example throwing car in reverse (just a laymens thoughts of how it has to reverse thrust instead of redirection there for much more maintainance required
