My cousin passed away this past November 2019 at 77. He had practiced Tai Chi for about 50 years. He was supple enough that he could easily bring his chin down to his knee. Sometimes he'd do a form on the beach; he lived in Marin County. His form was beautiful, each move not really ending but flowing right into the next. Every time I see Tai Chi I think of him.

We could never have imagined that today we are now the biggest Tai Chi school IN THE WORLD! It all began when I was 3 years into my journey living with Master Gu in his mountainous Tai Chi School. Master Gu is fluent in English and has always seen it as his life mission to share the healing Taoist arts of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Meditation with the world. He shared with me his vision to create not only online courses, but an online Academy. I was excited by this vision and shared how I could use my filmmaking and inter-web skillz to make it happen. We then had a cup of tea and Master Gu sang Chinese opera while playing the guitar… 🤠☯ We are really proud of what we have built. We now are a 16-person team from 7 countries and we are on a mission to create films, communities and transformative education to help people and planet live in balance. 18 form in the Lao jia yi lu style. Old Frame. Believe it or not, her performance is not the best I've seen either. Not meant as an insult and it could easily be that she preferred to make this very calm as it appeared (great if so!); but the Chen family Grandmaster (who is easy enough to look up) better demonstrates the hard force/transition that should be present. It can be quite contrasting and puts some people off of Chen, funnily enough. Yang is far more fluid comparatively. Personally I adore Chen though. It is the hereditary art supported in Beijing (wudang is more of a joke for serious practitioners here) with a steep history. Thats not to say that any form of the art is to be pointlessly mocked - more that people should be very careful when we start talking about lineage from perspective of 'effectiveness'. As only the family lineages meet that criteria currently.

Would it be possible to do a 2nd video...with commentary? May be explaining the individual moves, the feeling behind the movement, Wuming's state of mind while she is performing? Is she imagining an opponent or is it more a meditative solitary performance? So strong, beautiful and peaceful to watch! Thank you!
@Ironfangzu2 жыл бұрын
The form that she's practicing, and the way that she's executing it, leads me to think that she is almost certainly using it as a, as you call it, a meditative solitary performance.. She is striving with each movement to control her breathing, to keep her moments supple, to flow from movement to movement with perfect balance, like water flowing downstream. In Taiji, Although each movement in Taiji has, in theory, a use in combat like any other wushu form, the way she is doing it, she's not practicing self defense. She's perfecting self control.

@@Drakula5 I don't recomend to anybody to learn martial art from youtube. The videos here are very usefull only if the practitioner have proper training with a teacher . And, by the way, this lady performs the movements quite well.

Wuming’ performance is both breathtaking and mesmerizing and her skill unquestionably. Though I must add that to fully appreciate Tai Chi one must also be able to observe her stances. To expand on that of course is her connection to earth, twisting of the feet, movement of the knees, hips, shoulders and elbows. All too often one or more of these elements were missing from video instead focusing on hand movements. Still Wuming’s mastery shines through brilliantly.

@@davidmack5689 In Okinawan karate, they teach the same movement, they call it chinkuchi...very possibly may have adopted it from China. Unfortunately, you don't hear about it much in Japanese karate, unless the instructor/school is familiar with Okinawan karate or the Chinese arts.

actually the photographer does not know to focus on the dan tien, the center. you often cut off her foot work. It is a first rule of photo ... camera aimed at center of person not face height ...
@authenticselection42484 жыл бұрын
@@cacciato69 I agree. Though the definition is excellent, and there are some lovely camera moves, the absence of so much strategic leg and foot work detracts from what could be a class presentation, and makes this frustrating to watch. With better planning, this could be an excellent video and I look forward to more as this collaboration develops.

To me personally, true Tai Chi is the most other-worldly, mystical form of movement I've even seen. Its beauty and grace is transcendent. True Tai Chi is an Ideal of the highest order.
