The variety within Periphery's music is probably what makes them so special. If you were listening to this on the album, your reaction to the next track would be hilarious.

Thats why periphery fans argue all the time lol everyone has wildly different opinions on their material and wildly different favorites. The only true answer though is that P1 is their best album. That's an objective fact so don't @me

Got to hear Periphery perform this live a couple weeks ago, Spencer said this is the most vocally challenging song for him and probably the most difficult song for the band to perform live. They crushed it of course lol, in a room of a few hundred Periphery fans the energy after Spencer held that last high note was incredible!

Oh he's DEFINITELY a better singer than sleep token. Spencer actually never uses auto tune, EXCEPT for background vocals. On the main vocal lines, zero pitch correction And you are correct. Auto tune is used live all the time. The funny thing is it can go badly. There was a time when Billy Joel did the superbowl half time where autotune was set to the wrong key and kept miscorrecting his voice lmfao it was hilarious because he actually seemed to be hitting all the notes just fine on his own until autotune kicked in and ruined it

What both Spencer from Periphery and Dan from Tesseract have in common is that while they have some talent, most of what you hear is a product of how incredibly hard they've been willing to push themselves to improve their power, range and versatility in delivery, you can see the improvement over their discography. I also agree that whats most endearing about both is how raw and unprocessed their vocals sound compared to other bands. You are correct though that there are countless Periphery tracks which are much heavier both vocally and instrumentally that would test the limits of what you enjoy from metal, but who knows, you might find a newfound understanding and appreciation for why a band like Periphery chooses to implement harsh vocals to convey different emotions or create tension and atmosphere

Hey Mark! The whole song sounded really good in the headphones. That was interesting about how they mic'd the guitar and you could hear the room in the beginning. Never heard of them before. Thanks! 🙂
@markabusireactions
@markabusireactions Жыл бұрын
It was just because I could hear him hitting the strings at one point, and you’re only gonna get that if you have a mic pointed near him when he’s playing, so I figured they must be in a room doing it with an amp, rather than plugged straight into the mixing desk.

Damn that was really cool, and not the type of thing I'd have expected to like. I stole this idea from someone; as attention becomes increasingly commodified the potential for internally homogenized media to compete will diminish. It's mostly a theory that I see applied in Kpop where regardless of what would make sense for the song, there basically has to be a short rap section and a short techno breakdown section and the product often feels like several segments glued together rather than something that flows; basically the idea is create something that will hold your attention regardless of the cost to artistic merit. I'm not sure what Periphery was going for here, but they really found a way to sort of weave us around in a way where it's almost impossible to get bored but still feel like we're on the same journey. Absolutely fantastic.

Rare that every member of a band has best-in-class levels of skill, but with Periphery I legitimately think thats the case. All three guitarists absolutely rip, Matt is a crazy good drummer with a really unique feel, and Spencer... Goes without saying. Do Stranger Things next 👍🏻
@HugoStiglitz88
@HugoStiglitz88 Жыл бұрын
FACTS!!!!!!!! Also Nolly is the best mixing engineer ever in metal music. Amazing bass player too. But like you said, the rest are incredible. Jake is kinda underrated but he might be the best guitar player in the band. He's easily the cleanest player live besides Matt who never makes mistakes (the jerk, making the rest of drummers look incompetent). Matt's my favorite drummer in metal hands down and the best imo. He can do any of the shit other metal drummers do but they can't do what he does. That's why he's the best. Not because of speed or double bass skill. It's his grooves, his chops, and his tasteful creativity no one else has. Jay from tesseract is up there with Matt tho. Guy is great too

Not bad. I don’t mind a little screaming as an accent, like when he said wax wings, but when it’s a whole verse or something, it loses me. That kind of intensity of emotion burns out quickly, so when it carries on like that, it’s like when you lose immersion and see the people in your show as actors acting for me.
@markabusireactions
