Own the SA-8500, my best amplifier ever. Such amazing sound quality. Punchy, wide, subtle and engaging.

A big part of me is hoping this is THE Peter Gabriel, but even if not, yes, a great series of amplifiers!

Thanks for your time and the tour on this gem. I own the smaller cousin, SA-8500 II that I had restored about a year ago. I love it like it was brand new again; these top 2 amps never did run very hot when in use, even at moderate volume. I'm old enough now that soundstage, fidelity, and a low noise floor are more important; I don't need to pound the nails out of the wall anymore! 😎

I had a 9500II back in the day but lost it in a hurricane in the late '90s. Really, really nice amp. The massive dual power supply certainly helped in cleanly and powerfully reproducing bass drums and peddle bass. The drop on Genesis' "Fly On A Windshield" could rattle your fillings!

I wish you were based in Adelaide! I have an SA6300 that I'd love you to overhaul. It was my folk's amp, bought new in the 70's. I'm sure I'll find someone local for the job, but I like supporting channels I enjoy watching.

My 2 receivers are a Concept 6.5 and a Realistic STA-2080 The Concept runs hot in the warmer months, But the Realistic always stays pretty cool. I bought the Concept in 1980. The Realistic was from my dad. I have had no problems with the Realistic, but the Concept has had 2 repairs over the years. Sad that these vintage receivers are now expensive to have fixed when they eventually quit. An integrated amp looks to be a better choice over receivers.

Sonically and other things being equal, integrated amps are less complex and generally offer better performance as amplifiers. That being said, we repair receivers of all sorts and they are almost always very repairable. I'm working on a Sansui G-8000 receiver as we speak!
