I've never seen the old town so quiet, usually its heaving. You did the right thing going into the Palace so early as its always mobbed and you had the space to see everything clearly. Those stairs are a killer lol. So enjoyed this and lots more to see 😊

The Old Town is a Unesco World Heritage Site, In other places old towns that have this status, generally only have car and motorized vehicles access for the residents and business owners who actually live inside the old town. This is done to protect the site. Another great video. :) Thanks

They built properties with high ceilings due to heat rises, therefore in hot countries, the higher the ceiling the better & they was cool, hence why churches have huge domes on their roofs. To keep cool in our houses with low ceilings, we need fans or air conditioning machines, which cost a lot to run in electricity, so I just open my latch door that leads into my loft and leave it open in the hot summer months to let the heat raise into my roof, it then keeps our house cooler without paying for gadgets.

Hi Martin and Sharon , what a lovely place Rhodes is, you did well driving there, I Remember my first time driving in Spain , they are mad , my sons said il fit in ok here . Cheeky sods . Beautiful castle , palace, it amazes me how they managed without cranes and mechanical stuff to build such beautiful buildings . Thank you for a lovely insight into Rhodes .

Isn't Rhodes just glorious? I loved the old town! I went there many years ago and vowed I'd go back. Sadly I never have but your videos have made me determined to go, although I expect it's a lot more built up now. I remember going to Lindos , riding a donkey up a hill, there weren't any hotels there, it was a place you went to on a day trip, now it's a full blown resort. I have to say Sharon, your hair looks really lovely, have you had it cut differently? Martin, I thought you did a brilliant job filming without your tripod, it's difficult to film without getting a lot of jerky frames, but your filming was just so smooth. Enjoy the rest of your holiday, and thanks for taking us with you. X

Very good to have a nice mooch around the Old Town - I remember my sister going there donkey's years ago & being amazed by it and all the history around the Knights Templar and beyond. When you think so much culture has come down the ages from Greece, so to be there must feel impressive. Very good point you made, Martin, about the stones holding the memories - has to be more dynamic than dreaded concrete & steel - all so brutal. And even as that citadel was a military installation, protecting & defending, it was still incredibly beautiful and awe-inspiring. I think you'll find Rhodes is bursting with locations like this - you may need the car another day. I know you're all-inclusive, but how much is food & drink & could you have just done B & B then eaten out fairly affordably? Glad you are having a great time & thanks for taking us along.

I took out a hire car in Malaga one time - and went into a Spanish car as the road narrowed and narrowed into a single lane. The owner was not happy. Luckily I'd taken out full insurance on the vehicle and it didn't cost me a penny. The only time I trust getting a hire car now is in countries with massive road space like the US - had a massive dodge caravan there, no probs.
